Starts at 6pm on Friday, but the Night Glow isn't until 9:45pm

On Saturday & Sunday it starts at midday, but they have a balloon launch at 6pm.

There will be plenty of time for fireworks in November.

You could still come Saturday.

Right, I've started a list in the first thread. I'll ask my friend who's been before if there is a particular place that's best to meet, unless anyone knows the park and can suggest a place.

I was thinking of meeting about 8pm??? How does that sound, I figure it gives us time for a bit of a social, check out some of the stalls etc and work out where a good place to stand might be for the main Night Glow which is starting around 9:45pm.

I think so. All he will appreciate is the chocolate cake and all the attention. And perhaps the wrapping paper from his presents!

Great, I'll add you to the list, why not bring your wife too. Tell her your treating her to a candlelit supper......i.e. a hot dog with lighting provided by hot air balloon bunsen burners!

Don't think she'll quite fall for that one! Also anything under 80 degrees is normally too cold for her! My daughter might come though, she quite likes taking pics.

During the Night Glow, they stay tethered to the ground.

When they take off on Saturday I'll see if I can blow them East for you.

Think I may be able to make the Friday evening. Something I haven't tried before. I've done very little night photography.

Given the low light and distance of the balloons, long lens and tripod?

Would be great to have you join us Tim.
Tripod definately but I think you might end up using a standard zoom more than a long lens, depends what sort of picture you're after.

I've spoken to the organisers, and it turns out there are many entrances onto the park so she suggested that the Band Stand would be the best place to meet, it's right inside the main entrance to the park off Hackwood Road, HOWEVER, the lady did say that if you park in the official event carpark you will enter the park at one of the entrances over the far side.

So on her recommendation, the meeting place for Friday night will be 8pm at the Band Stand inside the Main Entrance, if anyone wants my mobile number then please pm me.....hopefully Orange will get a signal over there...

How weather dependent is this kind of event? Does it have to be just right, else they scrap it?

I don't know the answer to this, but my understanding is that the balloons at the nightglow on Friday will be tethered to the ground and just illuminated, so I guess it would have to be pretty poor weather to prevent this.

The mass launches happen during the daylight at 6pm on each of the 3 days. As most people work Mon-Fri I didn't think many would be able to get there for 6pm on Friday, which is why I'll probably go back on Saturday to get them in the air. But the nightglow is only happening on the Friday night.

I've added your name, a tripod will definately make it a lot easier as you're probably going to want fairly long shutterspeeds.
I mentioned it to those at the recent meet in Andover, but nobody seemed that interested in it.

It's more likely I could make it for 8 than 6. As you say, work day. I could do Saturday, but Friday is more handy as I'm half way there at work (Fleet) so just a hop a little further down the M3. Of course Friday on the M3 could be an issue too.

I will be bringing a friend along aswell, he got his camera about the same time as me but didnt get out much with it to learn. His name is Jon aswell. I will be travelling up myself so going to look for road map to get me to the carpark which i believe is £3.

Is there a cost to get into this event, my friend just asked and couldn't see anything on the link given at start of this thread just the cost of parking.

As far as I am aware the only charge is the parking.

I'm going to dump a 4x4 on a grass verge and hope for the best lol, should save some walking!

I work 5 mins drive from the park and is grey and the drizzle is so light that it feels more like heavy humidty, I need some serious waking up so will be there although people are more than welcome to give us a shove if I fall asleep!

No car parks are not too far. The Civic offices back onto the War Memorial Park and the bandstand is near the civic offices anyway. The allocated parking is going to be as far from the park as the council car parks (as I found out when I went to Basingstoke Live) and the fact that it rained most of the day makes me think my poor old Focus will probably get stuck on the wet gerass area:D..that's the luck I have.
