View Full Version : Anyone in Notts????
Hello,
I'm new to photography and getting a little frustrated with my lack of knowledge and skill :bang:
I was wondering if there was anyone on here from Notts that would be happy to meet up and show me a few pointers/humour me etc???
Here is my 'profile' just in case you think I may be some kind of fruit cake that's gonna knock you on the head and steal your gear :D
34 years young
Gas engineer
plays footy
rides a honda fireblade
Married (no kids)
2 cats
a minor addiction to chocolate peanuts
Anyway, that's enough for fear of sounding like some dodgy dating agency advert :D
So, if you have the time and patience to meet up and part with some of your knowledge, that would be greatly appreciated.
I can supply hot/cold drinks and some chocolate hob nobs,
Thanks in advance
Darryl
Bit of a Noob myself ! Kids grown up, have four cats & a passion for chocolate hobnobbs too.
Trucker, 57 yrs & a mrs who has a keen interest in togging.
yo' .................
i frequent that place called Notts.... expect a pm
Hello!!!
Midsnick kindly came over to mine today and went through a few basics. He mentioned trying to arrange a Notts TP meet at some point as I think there are a few of us on here.
I'm in Hucknall by the way. Hopefully see you soon:thumbs:

Yep good to meet you Darryl and hope you might grasp a few of the basics from our chat.
Darryl uses Nikon and I only have experience of Canon so I didn't have a clue what i was talking about, add to that the fact that what I am thinking doesn't neccesarily correspond to what comes out of my mouth the poor lad is probably more confused than ever :D
There are plenty of TP'ers in the Notts area so a meet would be good.

Nottingham TP meet sounds like a good plan to me. I'm just over the M1 in Donington

Not far - Derby here - what type of photography do you like?
I'm willing to turn my hand [and lens!] to most stuff apart from street photography, as I'm too afraid of people thinking I'm up to no good [just because I'm paranoid...].

Personally, anything - motorsport, scenery, people, wildlife, anything.
Perhaps best if someone (who can advise newbies) suggests a date/location/time?:)

im from donny, got a bit of experience and willing to share it with you
well it looks like there are a few of us up for it, we just need to think of a place to go!
Feel free to start naming some places and then we can see what is the popular choice.
I'll start with a couple ideas:
1. Newstead Abbey - great gardens £4 entrance
2. Mallory Park for a random track day - practice panning etc and free

Great, adding to the list..
1. Newstead Abbey - great gardens £4 entrance
2. Mallory Park for a random track day - practice panning etc and free
3. River Trent/Nottingham Canal
4. Woolaton Hall
I'm in Long Eaton so not far from Notts at all, could be interested in a meet.
Couple more places for a possible meet (depending on what people want to shoot of course)
Attenborough nature reserve, loads of wildlife, river Trent and a couple of scenic areas.
Wollaton Hall - not been here myself but have heard there's deer and nice scenery.

Wollaton hall sounds good - also looks like there's something for everyone: Wildlife, Landscapes, Architectural and even a few moving parts:
"The Industrial Museum is now open for the popular Steaming Sundays on the last Sunday of every month, with thanks to the Arkwright Society"
[from http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1037]
Also - dirt cheap - all is free bar parking! :D
Wollaton Park is good, only modest car parking charge if no event on. Another of my favourites is a walk along the Trent Embankment, plenty of free parking, totally free !

well iam a gas engineer in notts too
thats 3 gas engineers/photographers (im guessing mrgas is a gas engineer).
we could meet up and have canon vs nikon debate or the baxi vs gloworm debate? (not)
maybe mrgas isnt a gas engineer, but is rather ahem, windy lol
So it looks like Wollaton Hall is Favourite. I'm happy if everyone else is???
Just need to sort out a date.
suggestions welcome.
OK, what about meet somewhere.
My suggestion is, Wollaton Park on Sun 1 Aug.
Any other suggestions ?
The 1st is good for me. Say 10am for a couple of hours, weather permitting?
How is this for everyone else?

Can't do 1st Aug - down visiting the Olds that weekend for my old man's b'day.
How about the 8th? [assuming sunday is good for people]
I added a poll after I had seen your reply Nigel. I'll leave it on to see what response I get and take it from there. I doubt we will ever find a date that suits everyone :(
I'm happy to meet up again the week after if anyone else wanted to also.

When i go out shooting landscapes by 10am im back home downloading!
If your interest is landscape photography than the best time to be on site is 30mins before sunrise, thats about 04:30 then! theres also no one else around to walk across frame. as for weather permitting........ some stunning pictures can be had when the sky is full of drama, a clear blue sky is in fact "bleak" in terms of photography.
just my thoughts hope you have a great day.

Oh dear - that's rather biased it... 1 vote, and it's against - sorry - I'd presumed you'd voted!
Could you put up a poll that instead asks "1st August" or "8th August" or "Saturday preferred", unless, that is, you can't do 8th August, in which case, I'll stop hijacking your thread, and instead start a second TP meet thread for 8th August :D
I cant work out how to edit the poll ????

Errr - can't help - I'd recommend using the "contact a mod" feature of the site!

Oh - bugger - just did a search on google:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/site-suggestions-help-announcements/109073-editing-poll-options-after-poll-submission.html
Just start a new thread Nigel entitled Notts meets and put a poll for the two dates and we will see what happens. I think that's the easiest option :)
