How do I upload a pic directly onto a post from a folder on my hard drive ?

You can't - you would have to give the world access to your hard drive. You need to host it somewhere first. Open a flickr account (free) and host it there or upload it to your gallery

A quick and easy way to upload images would be to use this:

Once uploaded, take the url from which the website has generated and post it where ever you want.
