I am going, not sure which day, but the good thing is that the tickets are valid for either day. £30 on the gate or £25 over the net.

I was hoping to go on the Monday but stuck in Boscombe Down with the Fast Jet boys until Wed then in Herts at a supplier Thursday so looks like I'll luck out this time. Sunday could have been an option but got the luck from "She that sometimes must be obeyed" as away all this week with 617 & 41 Sqn

I am there on the 22nd with a client so I have no idea what I will see that day, flying program to be confirmed for that day apparently!

For viewing positions it depends what you want really. You'll see everything pretty much anywhere you are, but if you want an unobstructed view of the spectator end of the runway (pretty much where most of the planes will be sat and roll into take off), you need to be there extremely early and stake your place (with people to guard it when you go off for refreshments), or head right the way down the crowd line, to where you can get a good shot reasonably easily, especially if you're tall, have something to stand on or can push your way near the rope (you can forget doing the same in the mass of the main crowd). With the latter you won't be 90 degrees on right up by the crowd, but on the other hand you can get some great 45 degree shots of planes coming at you or landing, and swinging the other way for take offs especially for those who use more of the runway.

It's a fairly long runway with a bit of an angle in it, so you can get pretty good views, and the spectators are on the south side looking north so not shooting into the sun except later in the day shooting west.

Or, if you're local and know the area, there are spots outside of the airfield that are free and have fantastic views, especially from the end of the runway ;)

Aside from that you can see a lot of stuff once they're in the air from many places around Farnborough, Fleet and Aldershot. In fact you'll have a chance from this week. They're already doing practice flights ready for next week.

Traffic is an issue, as with all airshows, though there's plenty of parking and big access roads and I've usually found it well organised.

We get to hear most of the stuff all flipping week ... :D

I live about 5 miles away and have to wear ear plugs every time the show is on. I would recommend ear plugs to anyone getting closer than me.

For great views outside of the airfield I'd recommend going up this bit and sitting on that verge:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=51.269299,-0.800843&spn=0,0.026007&z=15&layer=c&cbll=51.269405,-0.80105&panoid=-6VdtBLuFnVkH9t-nPqz2w&cbp=12,195.99,,0,9.16

You get a cracking view straight down the end of the runway with everything taking off directly towards you.

This was a shot I got from there 2 years ago:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y103/chris900/P1000694.jpg

and the Red Arrows will buzz the hill too, and you'll get a awesome view as they come right over your head!

not sure how close to there you'll be able to park so it might mean tabbing a fair way with your kit!

i'll prob go in the on the Saturday now as i'm racing toy cars on Sunday

if anyone else is in there i'll be the fat bald bloke with the camera

Thats actually quite scary how long they are coming towards you off the runway. Nice shots. I got a ticket for the weekend, probably going to go on the saturday. If I was nearby I would probably go for getting a look from elsewhere, but its a 4 hr drive, so I will be going to the airfield and using the facilities there.

Just park in the rushmoor car parks, which are free, and you can walk up to that spot. Take a chair and sit on the hill. All free, fantastic views. If you get bored it's a nice area for a walk too.

A380 was doing practice stuff today apparently, but being stuck in the office I didn't see it (despite being under the flight path). Couldn't hear it either but it's amazingly quiet. The fighter jets on the other hand are hard to miss. Laughed at the shop on the way to work that's already advertising ear plugs for sale :D

i found this place to a nice spot, its where they set up the radar for the show, its at the top of farnham? you park up on this road, odiham rd A287 by the water tower.
its about a ten minute or so walk through the woody type bit, and you basicaly end up looking right over the airstrip.
linky (http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=484261&y=148852&z=110&sv=upper+hale&st=6&tl=Map+of+Upper+Hale+Road,+Farnham,+Surrey,+GU9&searchp=ids.srf&mapp=map.srf)
pan out one, and scroll up, you want to be around the royal pavillion(i think) but go that way and you get a great view, its very busy.

I'm just wondering if it would be worth driving up Friday and sitting on the hill. I finish at 12 and they are flying from 13.30 until 17.00 so I could just about make it (hour and 15 mins according to AA routemaster) and as its a non public day and the kids will still be at school is should be a lot quieter.

Hit the A323 and you'll be directed to parking either in Rushmoor or Eelmoor car parks (depending which is full by that time). The route to get into the airfield is basically over a bridge over the road, but instead of going over the bridge, just walk west on the A323 to around Miles Hill.

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=483500&y=152500&z=120&sv=miles+hill&st=3&tl=Map+of+Miles+Hill,+Hampshire+&searchp=ids.srf&mapp=map.srf

Basically you'll see people on the hill, and you can come off the road and take pretty much any path and find your own spot. It's all common(ish) land (I say "ish" because it's MOD land really but it's open access.

That's assuming they don't try and stop people doing it this year, but can't see how they can and haven't in previous years. Besides, it's not like you're right up to the runway or see the static attractions in the airfield, but you still get a great view.

Haven't been over there myself, but this was tweeted today by a local photographer.

http://yfrog.com/nbm52j

Note the annoying big advert sign in the way! :(. They haven't done that in previous years.

You might be able to get higher up on the hill to avoid it though.

Just saw something big flying towards Farnborough going over Woking with it's front undercarriage down by the look of it (but didn't notice the rear down), which I thought looked like the 787 but apparently it's on the ground at Farnborough.

to my eye that image looks like it was taken from by the bridge.
My house has a nice big green opposite that is apparently (I didnt live here last year) used as a turning point!
However I'm at a family day at pirbright on the sat, so will probably tab or cycle across the trg area to a decent spot on the sunday, Shame I havent got my area pass for the disco yet- still waiting!

And reference that verge/ layby- its already blocked off, although I did do a little recce on how to get there from mine over the weekend!

I really wanted to stand under the arrival/depart route... I've asked Taxi companies, saying there is no traffic control around the hill at Fleet Road. And wondering whether that hill is accessible to public?

Or Adam, do you have other good spots for shooting aircrafts @EGLF???

See my earlier post. You want Miles Hill on Fleet Road / A323. It's right under the flight path, and where all the photos on the first page have come from.

The whole road has traffic control though. No parking at all along basically any road which leads up to the air show or gives potential viewing points.

However, just park in Rushmoor or Eelmoor car parks (free) along with the rest of the crowd, but walk up the road to Miles Hill to get a free view.

As said, it's MOD land but like most of the MOD land around here, it's open access.

the route is already coned off- has been for about a week now.
you could prob get a taxi to drop you off though, there is a pub called the foresters that you could get dropped off at, if you have an iphone or similar you could use it to nav across about a mile to the hill, basically, cross the road from the pub, go into the woods, hit the high speed training trac (you'll hear them before you see them if they are out) and turn left, walk til you hit the hill (on your left)

That's a good option. There's a big area there to park where you started from, normally used by dog walkers. Not sure if they'll block it off sat/sun though, but it's mostly locals who know it.

I think the closures are one way. So one way closed AM, the other PM, and they turn it into a one way system. There needs to be access to the car parks anyway.

Yep, thats how I found it, we walk the dogs up there most sundays and some evenings, looking at the sat image though, I think we may be better off going down the side of tweseldown racetrack, its only 5 min bike ride from the house.

The road past the racecourse (I drive along it every day) is open. It's the "bypass" road for the airshow. However you can't park along the road. You can use the parking spots used by the dog walkers however, or maybe park in the tweesldown or playing field car parks.

For up to date information tune to 87.70 FM locally, or you can get the radio on the official web site also. They've been covering the show every day.

Well I got moved on by 2 coppers on pushbikes because I was standing in the road so missed the Red Arrows. Not a problem as they will be here in Bournemouth in a couple of weeks but was not best pleased.

Would have liked to have seen a fellow K-7 user .. not many of us around ;)

Just watched the red arrows do a tight turn over my back garden, while sat here with a coffee!

What kind of a photographer are you! Where are the shots? :D

I took these from my back garden yesterday.

I wasn't expecting it! My 'window of opportunity' was about 3 sec!
Not quite long enough to open the box, get the camera out & start shooting!
And leaving the cam out is a no no- my 4 yr old can't leave it alone

Me too tim! I go from CC to Pirbright, I guess you go the other way?
Watch out for a light green discovery 2!
Yeah, well Woking to CC but via Pirbright :D (on the way there that is).

I know the feeling. I took my battery out yesterday to charge it when I thought it was all over, heard a noise and saw the Lancaster flying low right over the house. :bang:

Worth listening to the radio then you'll know what's coming up :D. 87.7 FM, or it's on the official website.

I managed one of that, didn't realise it was even there until it had past though.

I see the F22 didn't fly yesterday or today :(

I was gutted about this, one of the reasons I went to the show was to see this plane.

I had a good day, but just felt that there was something missing, not sure what though, felt that they could have flown more jets. Just felt a bit lacking.

The traffic situation is an absolute joke too, terrible.

It's not usually heavy on the military jets as it's a commercial show also, though usually get a fair share of them. The weather wasn't so good so might have been some changes.

The traffic situation is an absolute joke too, terrible.
And they were supposed to have improved it this year

Didn't go in the end so didn't see what it was like, but in previous years it's usually not been anywhere near as bad as shows like RIAT or Biggin Hill.
