If any owners of a 500mm L IS want to see how their baby was born, this here link (http://web1.canon.jp/camera-museum/tech/l_plant/index.html) is a must see.
Took a while to load up the films, but well worth it imho :D

I was quite surprised to see them just nipping the lense elements down by hand, with all the expense and japanese attention to detail, I was expecting a frapping huge (cool) transformers style robot to come in and torque it up :)

Yeah, I would have expected the entire process to be automated. Its strange how I can sit and watch this, and be interested. I used to work in a glass factory, and I can tell you it was the worst, most boring job ever!

Interesting site. The commentator became a little annoying having to say the full name of the lens each time: "Canon EF 500 millimetre F4 L IS USM lens" :p

Instant loading at work thanks to a 51MBps (actual figures as shown on a speedtest website) connection :D
Anyway back to the topic, very interesting stuff! All I need now is a pc with speakers at work and I'm away :bang: shall have a look on a another computer in a bit.
the final assembly process is just amazing, being a nikon user i am not up to speed on the cost of this baby but from what i have seen in the video,i am sure it is worth every penny
