I have waited a long time to get one of these fine birds in my gallery.

Yesterday proved successful with the 500mm..:)

Well done Tim. I was hoping to get to Sandwell Valley reserve today which is quite local for me and has lots of Herons, but the weather here is dreadful. :(

Great shots BB - Still on my wishlist :bang: - I saw two at my local lake yesterday but they stayed on the far side which isn't accessable to the public or in range of my titchy 300mm :embarrassed: - one day :cuckoo:

Love the first shot! The reeds and the water look great in the first too :D

Ah the heron...my nemisis! lol. I have loads of shots of these as they are the most common large bird in my area so see them a lot. Sometimes too close to fill the frame at 200mm and other times so scared they won't come within 100 meters of me, strange birds! lol

A couple of my favourite shots, two young and mummy at the nest:

Not the best angle but was the only one I could get. I have more magnification than when I took this a few years back so may have to try again.

And this, one taken from my film days before I was really in to photography in a big way...

2nd shot for me too Tim, excellent capture with a real sense of motion
Could possibly do with a tiny bit more space to the right of frame to fly into (easy photoshop fix, but only if I'm being really picky though). Both are great shots but the 2nd...
Nice shots too from everyone else that has contributed.
