Model provided, only amateur and he asked if any good shots could we pass to model for her portfolio, so a bit like TFCD...

Price: £60 per person, Due to less than 10 people attending...

The date looks fine, but I'm on a tight budget (heading out to states for a few weeks in October) and as well as all the costs I'm going to be buying a new netbook to take, suitcases etc..

As an aside:

Do paypal charge if you send money as Gift ???

If money is sent as a gift the recipient gets the amount specified (£60 in this case).


If the sender chooses to credit card fund it, the sender is charged the paypal fee for using credit cards (3.4% or so).

Basic Plan for the day is:

Start 10am
Go through Health and safety issues..
Explain lighting and equipment..
Setup basic lighting etc...
Shoot...
Break for lunch about 12.30pm
Continue on different setups..
Classic portraiture lighting etc..
Load up pics to computer...
Review images...
Finish 5-5.30pm

This just a basic outline, he said see how we go throughout the day....

Phew... It was quite warm in the studio today...

I had a great day learnt loads, hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves...

The day started with an explanation on how a light meter works, how the studio lights are constructed and what all the buttons do, the different leads needed, safety in the studio, umbrellas and softboxes...

Practical started with white background using 4 lights, how to meter the lights individually then combined on the background...positioning them 2 on background 2 on subject...

Met the model Megan who was brilliant, very professional, as most of us didnt know any poses she moved from pose to pose without asking so we could consentrate on the lights and setting cameras...

Then went to black background and using hair lights for separation...

Then back to white background, where we had an hour or so just to play around with the lights and model...

Legacy had her doing hair flicks, we had her jumping up, sitting on the floor etc... but at over 6ft with heels on (thats the model not legacy :D) we had trouble fitting her in frame...

So a great day in all, will get some photos up ASAP...

Aye a really good day - thanks to Mark for organising this and getting everyone together.

Great place - some very interesting info about the lights and settings and backdrops. Really good model who worked like a trooper from about 11.30 am to 4.30pm without a complaint. Willing to do anything asked of her, friendly and very professional - and she's bloody tall and very nice looking too (god i hate her now :-) )

good group of people and pretty nice place - absolutely cracking day especially considering how much we got for our money - it was pretty much a bargain.

Many thanks for organising this, was a really good day, very informative and Megan was an absolute star running through all the poses without being asked, at least as far as I was concerned (evidently) having no idea how to ask her to pose!

Complete steal for £60 I felt, and as it turned out having only five people worked quite well, we'd have been struggling with 10.

yea I looked at that one for a long time but the two hot spots on her nose kinda put me off a little. Still a cracking shot though and the arm across looks good. I almost joined you so that I can see a pro studio working but I had a couple of shoots here. There is so much to learn, I thought it would be easy but I think it's harder than wedding work.
