You can also link to a users profile...so if someone wants to know how to get hold of, say, Kerso, just type in

Kerso

Which does this :

Kerso

No need for User ID's or anything (although you need to get the username right :)

Doesnt it concern anyone that the amount of stuff you add to the forum affects its stability and security?

the bigger they are the harder they fall, and i dont want to see this site down. i quite like it here :)

A valid question mate. These are simply a legitimate part of the vBulletin software (replacement BB codes).

We don't allow the ability to post HTML in posts, signatures or anywhere, as that can have security and stability effects. This is a slight way round that, so we can have some HTMLish effects.

Basically all the above sign smileys do, is allow the user to type in [s1], and the forum replaces it with such and such a smiley, then takes the text they put and places it above the smiley in a box....

So don't worry. Anything that affects the stability of the forum wouldnt (or shouldnt) make it anywhere near. We do tend to test things elsewhere on a separate testing forum first, before unleashing it 'live'. (If DF cant break it on the test forum, its good to go :D)

Only problem I've seen is that they don't show up in the RSS feed, which isn't a huge problem I imagine.

This is all pointless, kids and their toys. Why on earth would anybody want to waste their time entering text into a stupid smilie when they could be doing something much more constructive :shake:
