View Full Version : Elgol`s honeycomb, isle of Skye
It was getting late, beyond sunset and around 7.20 in the evening ( hence the blue cast ) when i took this picture but it didn`t make any difference as the weather wasn`t at its best anyway so a dusk picture seemed to be a better option from a day one.
I don`t know what the cliff rocks to the right are made of (or too lazy to find out) but i do know that the surface looks like a honeycomb.
Aper....f 14 - iso....50 - s/s....25 sec - f/l 40 mm & 1 stop soft grad for the sky and water.

Its lovely - but too big - resize to 800px
Have to agree it was a lovely picture and I felt bad breaking it to a link - but it needs to be 800 pixels or less for the forum. If you resize it just edit the url tags back to img tags to show the image in the thread again.

Not a problem , done.
Lovely shot - Which side of Skye is this ?

Neil. Take the Elgol road from Broadford. It takes you around Loch Slapin and to the South side of the Cuillins.
Great shot Dimitri . You could work on that blue cast if you did not want to keep it.

Forgot to say. It is sandstone. Apparently it is just the weathering that causes the honeycomb effect.
Thank you all for the nice comments and thank you Gary for the directions given.

You are welcome mate.
One thing I meant to say was a small plug for great Bed & Breakfast on the Elgol road. Just outside Broadford it is a hidden Gem. It is called Swordale House and is ran by Alan & Barbara Christie web is www.isleofskye.net/swordalehouse and phone number is 01471 822272. As good as Highland hospitality gets!

Love it! i really do. The mix of textures is fantastic. The only thing I would maybe change is darken the land in the back to make it a little less prominent.

Not many photos look better larger, but this certainly does! Love the way the cliff edge draws you into the photo, and then your eyes settle on the mountain in the background. Looks very isolated, i think thats what appeals to me :)
