Hi All

After going to Chester the other day I'm fancying a day out at the South Lakes Wildlife Park to at least use my membership once more this year to get my value for money.

Link to the Park : http://www.wildanimalpark.co.uk/

Please vote for your preferred date. I can do any of them so it will be most votes wins.

I'll leave the poll open until I get back off my hols and then post up the actual date if that's ok.

Definites

Can I suggest putting a link to the website in the first post so that people can check out what the place is before voting?

If I could attend then 19th Sept would be the only date I could make it but as I have a wedding all day the day before I doubt I'll be there.

I'm actually supposed to be working all three of them but I am going into hospital on the 27th so they might give me the 26th off..... I'll vote for the 26th as its the most likely for me.

See the "NW meets announcement" thread was a good idea, I do have them occaisonally :D

Hi Darren

Sorry you'll be working most of them. I tend to find Sundays easier as I'm usually at Rescue on a Saturday and like most folk work during the rest of the week.

The NW meets announcements thread is a good idea. I keep an eye on it regularly.

It's nobodies fault, I work 3 weekends then have 2 off but those three are the 3 in a row that I work.

The idea of the announcement thread is that you subscribe to it and then when someone adds to it it emails you about the addition. That is why I have been so insistent that people post EXACTLY as I said and only one post per event or people would just un subscribe.

I voted for 'any of these are OK' but I will need a least a couple of weeks to make sure I am not working on the date thats finally chosen.

Can someone do me favour please? I don't mix with strangers easily, (I'm sure you've noticed during the last couple of meets I've been to) but I'm desperate to improve and need instruction/guidance. I want to be stopped wandering off on my own. I'll never get any better just useing trial and error. I've tried that method for 3 years and I still use 'P' mode more often than not.

My HD is full of 'snaps' and I want to add some photographs I'd be proud to share with the TP community.

In short I'm looking for a buddy to go round the zoo with. I am not as aloof as I appear, honest. :)

Just voted for any of these dates. I have a couple of ideas for meets but am going to wait till I'm back from my holidays. I am easily confused :) I'm going to aim for one meet at least every month and hopefully different themes to keep the creative juices flowing :)

Diane you can come round the Zoo with us no problem BUT we are n00b's so will not help you with your shot of a lifetime. you are more than welcome to attach to our clan if you don't get any better offers though

richmond
06-08-2010, 23:02
BH John, if you're a n00b and get pics like you do I wish I was. Whats lower than n00b then?

Thank you very much for your offer, I'll be taking you up on it.

Cheers!

I'll be up for this, though as much advance notice of the final date as possible would be appreciated (voted for any date), as the calendar at our house gets filled up quickly.

Lifts available from Northwich (Cheshire) if required.

Damn! Looks like I can only make the 12th Sept. With the 26th being the most popular date by far I'll have to give this a miss. (I've ignored the 'any date' vote.)

Shame 'cos I was looking forward to being in Johns clan of n00bs. :-)

Oh dear Richard, that doesn't sound good.

I must admit I've been suffering from a virus myself all week. Been at work but only really in body rather than mind. Should hopefully be almost back to normal for weekend.

Just a little bump for this one as its this Sunday.

Just had a look at the weather prediction and it doesn't look too bad. Its not giving rain but it could be a bit chilly at 10-12 degrees.

Anyone who hasn't been to this park before should be aware that its quite open so if there is a breeze you will feel it so bring plenty of layers.

staffitaxi
24-09-2010, 09:12
Hi Paul,

Its not that big in comparison to other parks. What's good about it is generally you can get much closer to the animals than at zoos like Chester.

Hopefully it won't be too chilly for the animals to be outside as that would make a big difference to how long it will take to go round. I can spend hours just watching the lemurs when they are outside.

The good thing is its very close to some of the lakes and Barrow has some interesting areas as well. The Abbey is nice if you haven't been before.

As it’s up in the Lakes, it seem rude not to take some landscape shots (and I have a day pass from the misses :D). So planed on doing Coniston Water and surrounding area late PM.

What’s the Abbey you mention?

HI Ryland

Strangely I cannot find anything on their website which mentions disability access.

I can't think of many parts of the park where it would be a problem but I haven't been in for at least 6 months. I'm fairly sure its pathways most of the way round with very few steps.

I've just emailed them to double check.

Hi Ryland

Have just had this very quick response.

"Thank you for your enquiry into South Lakes Wild Animal Park, if you own or be able to obtain a motorised scooter or wheelchairs then you are more than welcome to bring them into the park.

The park is fully wheel chair accessible, with disabled toilets and parking facilities. There are a number of benches sited throughout the park for your convenience.

Being situated in Cumbria there a couple of areas which due to the natural gradient of the land can prove a little difficult however if at any time you find you need assistance any member of staff will be only too pleased to help.

I hope this helps with your enquiry and if you have any further questions then do not hesitate to contact the park again.
Regards
Gemma Wood"

Thanks to everyone who came through to the wildlife park yesterday. It was a really good day and although the sun wasn't always in the right place it was nice that we didn't get rained on and that at time its was very warm.

Hope those people who hadn't been to the park before felt that they could get fairly close to most of the animals and have got some good shots.

I haven't downloaded mine yet as I need to delete some stuff of my laptop before they will fit on.

Thanks for arranging Andrea, weather was great and a really nice place, will have to go back again with the kids. I downloaded my pics last night and had a quick shifty through, but an awful lot of them are suffering from back lighting. Will go through them properly tonight and post some up.

Nice to meet some old and new faces too. :)

Thanks again
