Somewhat on the last minute today, we decided to head over to Biggleswade and see a few birds. The owls and eagles and what have you were gorgeous, and a few pics of those tomorrow, but THESE birds were something else.

Apologies for the quality of pics not being perfect, my two teenage daughters were allowed to run riot with both Nikons as well as me, but we had a fabulous afternoon and saw stuff none of us have ever seen fly before, and maybe never again.

Oh, and my knowledge of aircraft could be written on postage stamp, so feel free to add the details if yu know them.

1. I think this was Blackburn something or other.

2. A very early Avro. A replica made for the movie, The Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines

3. Ok, I know this is a Bleriot, though I may have the spelling wrong. It never got more than a few feet off the ground, but was definately worth seeing.

4. A box something?? A replica made for the movie, The Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines

5. A Westland Lysander I am told.

6. havent got a clue, but the aerobatics were quite good by this one.

Nice. Not been to Shuttleworth yet this year but hope to soon.

4. Bristol Boxkite
6. Gloster Gladiator

It's always hard to get a good shot of the Bleriot as it hardly leaves the ground. Love the shot of the Avro Triplane and the Boxkite. Think 10 is pick of the bunch for me. Love it

Thankyou grumpy badger, names and comments appreciated  never really done aircraft before, but not too different to doing racing cars...apart from no fences in the way.

Shuttleworth IS amazing, we thought the bratz would be bored but they even two teenage girls absolutely loved it, so we were all happy. :D

Has the Lancaster photo been flipped over?

  Yes, it fell foul of the ps batch convert for watermark, and thats how close it flew, that picture is NOT cropped, so flipped it... going to go through them all over the next few days and will probabloy replace it with an unflipped one. We just had such a fab time with some fab planes I HAD to share! :D

I was going to pop to shuttleworth (only live 15 miles away) but the lure of watching motogp on the TV beat me :embarrassed: . Did you go in the Barn Owl shed thing ? , my son thought they were dummies until one blinked & stared at him :D

We did, went there first. The birds are amazing, but they only had a few out on the perches, pressumably because of the noise and things and we didnt get there until 3ish, but still fabulous. Will go again just to see the birds, hopefully see a few more out of the cages. The wires are so close together photographing them was impossible, but like I say will try again :D

If there isn't an air display on they fly quite a few of the birds. The lady doing the display was getting the birds to fly up and down the audience , I actually got hit on the head by wings / tresses :)

Gives you an idea of how close (30mm focal length) , the owl brushed me on the way past.

Brilliant. Will definately be going again, took us about 45 minutes to get there as we are only 5 minutes off the South Mimms A1/M25 roundabout, so even on a Sunday it was a very easy journey. Possibly even during the week, must see what they do re displays and stuff on a weekday if anything. My other half quite liked the sound of the falconry days, so thats one thats gone in the memory banks for when birthday time comes round ;)

Great photo's all round:clap:
Shuttleworth also does a sunset display, and the sun is always in the right position.
I love planes, me!

Many many years ago I went to see the Shuttleworth collection while on an ATC 'camp' at RAF Cottesmore, the impression those aircraft made stays with me to this day. Thanks LadyLens.
