View Full Version : d80 spec question
I had a look on the nikon site but couldn't find the answer to my questino, only stupid flash gimmicks.
Does the D80 have an electronic shutter like the D70/70s or does it have a mechanical shutter like the D200?
Cheers
The D200 shutter is described as...
• Electromagnetically controlled vertical-travel focal plane shutter
The D80 shutter is described as...
• Electronically controlled vertical-travel focal plane shutter
Neither are mechanical shutters in the clockwork sense anyway - with dead batteries the camera is a paperweight. ;)
Same type of shutter afaik.
Same type of shutter as which?
I see where you're going CT. The D70 from my understanding of the strobist site doesn't employ a 2nd curtain like the D2oo has. The shutter only goes upto something like 1/250. If you want to go faster the shutter speed stays the same but the sensor switches on and off for the set shutter speed instead of having a 2nd curtain. It means you can sync a flash much faster than you can with a two curtain setup.
You've got me Kev - I've no idea what that's all about. Sounds interesting though - any useful links? :)
I never checked on the D70 btw. The D70 shutter is indeed described as:-
• Combined mechanical and CCD electronic shutter
Here you go. (http://strobist.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html)
Scroll down to the blog called "Hacking your sync speed Pt1" Near the bottom just above the camera pictures is where it gets interesting with Nikon's shutter design/sensor design.
Well from that I guess the D80 doesn't have the same design as the D70. Shame, perhaps I'll think about a 2nd hand D70s.
