Its quite a nice idea - I like the light contrast between left and right. But its very noisy - I see from your exif that your camera was set at an iso of 1600, which is way too high for this type of shot.
I'd probably have cloned out the bird **** on the left as well.

Not a bad shot, didn't look at the exif though...
My first impression was that the chain and padlock ruin the shot at first glance...
Sorry:shrug:
I agree with Anton get rid of the padlock and chain and maybe try it in mono.

Call me strange but i love pics of gates and fences, personally i would have liked to see the whole thing and as others said remove padlocks and try in mono
But thats just my personal taste

Couldn't put my finger on what I didn't like, so I thought I'd play with the image. Not sure if it improves it though. I'll remove it if you don't like it.

I think the first one is ok, and VM's edit really improves it. I like it now :)
ISO 1600 is way too high - On a bright day you should set iso to 100 or 200 really. The first shot was good apart from that - just needed some sharpening, contrast boost and noise reduction.
