Sorry John but this one doesn't work for me at all, has a rather awkward feel to the angle of the head :shrug:
I think that you are on the right track, the eye is in focus & I think that if you turn down your flash by quite a bit in order to balance the colours & eliminate the harsh shadowing the image will improve noticeably.
You do need to clean your sensor though or clone out that huge dust bunny by the robins head :thumbs:

Edit: If you could post up the Exif info that would help with more accurate feedback & advice :thumbs:
