I'm planning on photographing a couple of stages of the Tour of Britain this year, specifically the Norfolk stage on the 16 September and possibly the Suffolk stage on the 17th.
Anyone else going to be out and about?

I really really really want too, but i don't know if i'm gonna be able to yet! - Due to college timetable.
I was thinking about heading out to Burgh next to alysham (Norfolk stage) as it goes out that way...and then try and get into norwich before they do.

Yeah should have said where I was planning on being, I may be doing some work around the tour for my employer so will need to be in North Norfolk. So I was going to try and get to the Wells Sprint, Holt and possibly one other location nearer the end of the tour.
Anyone with any suggestions for the Bury St Edmunds - Colchester stage if I make it?

I'm going to try and get to a few points of the norfolk leg. Possibly in front of Blickling Hall, Grapes Hill sprint, Pull's Ferry, Norwich Rail station, Mousehold climb.
Do remotes work that far apart!!
I'll be on the Trough of Bowland climb in Lancashire on the 11th I think. Norfolk is a little too far...

I reckon remotes will be fine, tell you what I'll keep an eye on the Blickling Hall Camera for you;)
Remember getting across the city and to different points on the route could be tricky and these guys don't hang around. Work out your routes before hand, making sure you avoid the tour route itself. Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs:)

I look forward to seeing you shots then:thumbs:

Not at all, thanks for the advice.
A question you may be able to answer. How far are the cyclists spread out in terms of minutes. Thinking of catching the front runners at one location and then teleporting to another:lol:

Hard to say, Norfolk being quite flat the peloton is likely to stay together (no big hills to spread them right out) so the majority of riders will be through your location in a matter of seconds. I suspect there will be a breakaway of a few riders, that will probably get caught in the last few miles, no idea how far out they'll be though could be many minutes could be seconds.

I'll be somewhere on the way out of Rochdale on stage 1. Not quite sure where yet though.

I've photographed one of last years Tour of Britain stages. If you haven't done one before be prepared. I was at a point about 5 miles from the end of a stage. A procession of cars leads them with all the spare bikes on top then the cyclists and these guys come past very quick, they were all together in 2 packs about 20ft between the 2 packs and then about 5 odd ones on there own and that was it

Looking at the route into Norwich, it'll cut the north of the city in half for a good 2-3 hours so getting between locations could be difficult in a car.
Trough of Bowland is a great location, I saw it there years back when Chris Boardman had just come off his bike. That and the climb meant the peleton was nicely spread out.
I marshalled for the Tour de France when it came to Portsmouth and on the run in to the finish (about 5km to go) they were seriously travelling, something to bear in mind.

I'm planning on positioning myself on East Hill in Colchester. Why........? It's uphill and the end of the stage so they won't move quickly lol
