Having never shot any cricket before I thought the slower shutter speed would give the ball some impression of movement.

Anyway, How about this handheld 1/1000 shutter..

Looks like a great lens!

Does it have IS? You didn't say so but all I can find on the net is IS versions of it. I'm trying to decide what lens to buy when I get my first DSLR. Mind you, if I'm gonna get this, I'll have to get something other than the nikon d50

Yes its the IS version Ewan but Canon makes a whole range of these 70-200mm lenses including...........

70-200mm F4
70-200mm F4 IS
70-200mm F/2.8
70-200mm F/2.8 IS

Hope that helps..:)

now this is a thread I didn't expect to see ;) Coming away from the primes?

Cracking lens though, delighted with mine although I don't think it's quite as sharp as the sigma, or the F4

The f/2.8 non-IS version is no longer available in the UK (and probably Europe) so you can only get it imported or from Kerso. No idea why Canon have done that when at £300-400 difference some of us cannot afford the IS version.

Not coming away from primes really mate, Just wanted a lens to stick on the camera on days when I can't be bothered to carry the full kit bag around.:)

Primes have always... and always will be sharper than any zoom ever made..;)

I´ll be getting the Nikon "equivalent" very very soon, hunting for the best price now as I´m ready to buy. I might have to start a different club though... as the Nikon is better ;)

It definitely used to be advertised on UK web sites. I think it was dropped to make way for the f/4 IS though no idea why they would want to do that.

I did wonder whether it had been discontinued and they were just emptying the supply chain elsewhere. But when I got mine the date code (cannot remember what it was) was after the f/4 IS released so I guess not. Strange decision.

Michael.
