Spotted this while out on a drive last week. Not sure why I like it, I just do. I think I was attracted to the fact that this sign stated that access must be available at all times, yet it looked like it hadn’t been used in years. The rusted gate, the rubbish strewn over the overgrown roadway.
It was shot in colour (RAW), as per usual, with a B&W preview I’ve been using (30D Picture Styles). Basically set to Black and White with a Red filter, to get a taste of what the shot looks like in B&W.
I then convert via Lightroom at home. A process that seems to work well I think.
Exif : 54mm, 1/50, f5.6, ISO500

I really like this, but it's ataken me a while to work out why.
Very thought provoking Marcel, as you say in your blog post to accompany it.
Great mono conversion.
There's one bit of composition that I particularly like, and that's the fact that the bar/gate goes completely across the frame in the foreground. It really gives the feeling that you can't get in there, even though judging by the gate at the back, you could easily walk round.

Lovely, a very moody shot. It's got a wonderful feel of desolation. It looks like no one's been passed that gate for years

:agree: Not sure why I like the shot but it does definitely work as an image - nice moody conversion

Thanks very much for the comments.
I must admit it wasn't one of those planned out, and thought in advance shots. I was driving round an industrial estate (Stakehill in Middleton, Manchester BTW), when I spotted this at a dead end, so I jumped out, leaving the engine running and took it. The mono conversion was one of my first proper attempts at using the channel mixer to produce a deliberately desolate and moody image.

Again, thanks for the comments, much appreciated :)

I was driving ... in Manchester ... spotted this dead end ... jumped out ... leaving engine running ... and ... nobody took it ... !!!

 ... and you've still got your motor ... :suspect:

:D

A very well spotted and well taken shot Marcel ... ... I do like the composition and mirroring of the foreground gate with the distant one ... the eye moves into, around and on through the shot very nicely thank you ...

If anything it is just a tad too dark in the in-between gates bit but that may just be my monitor ...
