View Full Version : Buyer/Seller Feedback?
Would it not be a good idea to have a subforum dedicated to individual sellers/buyers and other peoples experience with that person, to help identify trust-worthy people!

Seems like a good idea to me

Yes a good idea.
However I would like to suggest that opinions/comments are only allowed to be posted after the purchase/contract is completed.
It sounds a bit obvious I know but things can be said at the speed of light with a computer that would be far better said a day later when all the dust has settled.
It would not be fair on a seller for comments to be made before they have had a chance to correct an honest mistake, for instance.
And what about the seller's right to reply? I doubt all buyers are as pure as the driven snow. :suspect:

Yes, obviously some fairly standard rules to help steer away abuse.

They use something similar on the DVD Forums and it seems to work pretty well.
While it would help to show trustworthy sellers it would handicap those who only sell one once or twice. The classifieds forum was intended to let members pass on the odd piece of equipment they no longer needed, personally I wouldn't like these forums to become another eBay. I'd rather see no selling at all than that.

I think you have a very good point there.
I think the feedback should be used as an extra incentive as opposed to a necessity, to avoid the sort of handicap you're speaking about.
Any feedback is usefull to all members of this forum you only have to look at what has happened at POTN recently (Can happen anywhere not singleing out POTN), any extra information you have always helps when making a deal, even though this alone will not prevent Bad sellers ripping people off.
As for selling, members should be free to sell what they wish, (within the rules), If you don't like the for sale section don't look at it.

Don't think anyone woudl like to see this as another flea-bay Steep, but a
" I bought so & so from "Whoever" and it was great / crap - quick / slow arriving will suffice"?
I think it happens already to a certain extent, members on the forum regularly post comments about someone the have bought from, and how good the transaction was. eg Kerso.
It's always nice to say something, even if it's just "I bought this from ????? and i'm very happy, Thanks" when a sale is the result of TP forum.

I suggested in another thread that the forum could take up the same 'trust' system used by Overclockers, this system seems pretty handy in that each member can leave feedback for other memebers following a deal. I think a few memebers here are members at OCUK forums so will know what I'm rambling on about :)

When it works that's about as good a system as there is. Still open to some abuse mind you as people don't tend to leave neutral or negative in the fear of getting retaliatory strikes. That and people just not bothering to use it.

Very true, the system can only ever be as good as those that use it. I think I've sold about 20 itmes on OCUK over the years and got 16 bits of feedback left, so a good percentage of members there do use it.
I am not sure I see the point of a separate feedback system when for regular buyers or sellers you can check them out by just doing a quick search of their posts on the Classifieds board. It is far more reliable as the comments are put in a correct context and is much less hassle for admins and mods to police. The only downside is that it would include posts to skip through where someone offered advice or comments on the board when neither buying nor selling.
But maybe what would be useful is to have such a "check buyer/seller history" button or link added somewhere on the profile to automate that search?
Michael.
we will have a look and see what options there are, we could use the forums built in system and alter it, but we will see whats there..
There are alot of forums that have the trading system down very well.
AVForums for one.
They have VERY stringent rules which eliminates the Ebay mentality. Im all for a trading system, or at least a count on how many succssful trades someone has done.
By all means do that for the Trader Classified forum (and to be honest, anyone who sells enough to get a decent feedback score should be posting in there anyway) but not for the personals, it handicaps the person who only sells once or twice.
its still something we are looking at, we have a couple of ideas...
Given the trust issues arising in a current selling thread could it be worth adding a time limit to the posting requirement already in place? Upping the limit may not put off a determined scammer and even a determined individual. If someone has to have been a member for a period of 3-6 months for example you won't have people jioning just to sell stuff and if genuine members want to sell stuff quicker than this then they can always use ebay.

Staff are currently debating this issue, so a revision of the rules & regs of the Classifieds section will be in place shortly.
