I'm going Saturday. There is a good spot just after the wall next to the activities field. Also the top paddock isn't bad where the cars group up ready to go back down the hill. A few donuts are liable to be performed here too.

I'm doing the full three days as usual...

The best place to shoot from depends on what you want, I split my time between the paddocks, the assembly areas and the track itself. Paddocks will get you close ups of the cars while the assembly areas are usually the best place to get shots of the drivers. The best place on the track to get a clear view is probably on the terracing between the first two corners - go over the track to the side opposite Goodwood House where all the big trade stands are and head away from the cricket pitch and the concert stage. You can either go for the terracing for a downward shot or try and get to the rope for a ground level one.

I'm planning on getting their as early as possible, car park gates open 6:30 am. Walk round the paddocks to see the cars, activity field for the kids, then find my spot up the hill and somewhere on the rally stage. We spent too long everywhere else last year and missed out on the rally stage.

I shall be there all 3 days this year. I usually only do the Saturday, but there's just too much to see now.

I think there'll be a lot of time spent in the paddock, with a trip up to the rally stage and the top of the hill at some point.

I'll be there on the Friday... never been before, don't really know what to expect or have any idea about decent spots to shoot from!

Seem to have noticed people recommending some sort of step ladder to be able to see over the hay bales?

No need for a step ladder, the bales are only 3ft high tops, although there are some bits where the angles don't work very well. Further up the hill the bales are close to the track and the crowd line is quite far back so the near edge of the track is obscured. The general access terracing gives you a decent view but the ones opposite Goodwood house have flagpoles etc in the way which is annoying for photography.

What sort of length lens do is suitable for this??

For shots on the hill itself I tend to use the 100-400 almost exclusively and I only tend to go above 250-300mm because I can rather than because I need to.

So my 300mm F4 will be ok?

Yeah, you'll be fine. You might need to pick your spot carefully though because there will be some places where it'll be too long.

I'm going Saturday and by the looks of the weather it will be the best day too

Got sun burn on Friday & Saturday, followed by a serious drenching today. Great weekend though!

Plenty of photos to sort through now though.

went for the 3 days myself - first timer. bloomin huge venue. Didn't think 3 days was long enough in one sense, although with the weather being so unpredictable I was getting fed-up of getting soaked (esp sunday  )

Need to plough through the photo's and see if anything actually turned out ok - first time for motorsports, so panning will probably leave a lot to be desired :'(

Great atmosphere there - especially in the paddocks area, with the teams getting the cars ready and telling everyone to get under the tents when the heavens openend up.

Will hopefully go again next year, or maybe try-out Le Mans, but need to sort out lenses if I go again, or atleast shooting location (found 70-300 way to long in some places, and couldn't be bothered changing lenses with the weather being like it was).

Need to maybe replace 18-55 with 17-70 or something, 18-55 just a bit to short, seemed to need the extra between 55 and 70 for some reason. Probably just me neing naff

I live here and there has to be a hole somewhere! I have yet to actually look but with time I think I could find one!

I've been ten years in a row, now. I'll start posting my galleries asap!
