I'm thinking of going up to London to watch/photograph the Prologue of this years TdF. Now i'm not bad with my London knowledge, nights out and general day trips have helped me know my way around.
So i was wondering if anyone else is going and if anyone has got any tips for photographing cycling events. I've done a bit of sport before, never cycling, but really not that experienced.
There is a link below to look at the official site, with an interactive map too. Any suggestions for good viewpoints gratefully recieved!

Are you sure you want to be around there at that time? I have memories of earlier this year with the marathon. Those are not good memories btw.....

I am ok for either day. Not got much else planed for that weekend at the moment. I can meet where ever. I think I might have to have a look at the course myself. I actually have no idea where it goes at this stage.

PM me your number.... What time are they going through? I need to go pickup some strobes on Saterday, so I have to schedule that sometime during the day.
Will it even be possible to find space at the Prologue? I just imagine I would end up with shots of the backs of people's heads and being pushed and shoved a lot (which is not good for me).
For that reason I am thinking on the Sunday it will be better to shoot outside of the central London, though being a little familiar with the route there is not that seems that exciting compared to the likes of St. Paul's Cathedral.
As the stretch out near Abbey Wood is more rural I reckon finding space should be easy and though not looking London-like would make for a better background than the dirty terraced shops you get in Southwark, Lewisham, and Greenwich.
Never shot anything like this before so no idea what makes a suitable location, but better to take advantage of the opportunity than miss out completely.
Michael.

its thought about 250,000 people are expected on saturday and as the weathers been c&@p hopefully it might be easier to see (if not i find people tend to get out of the way of white lenses :) )
Think myself and my wife are going to try and get down to Green Park on Saturday for the Prologue!
Here goes nothing!
Cheers,
James

Girls, come along 180 tall fit blokes in very tight body suits :)
guys, 50mph through hyde park on £5k push bikes :D
I am planning on going to this. I live north of hyde park so I will probably head to the park and see what the crowds are like along the route. I assume that the crowds will be greatest along the mall and constitution hill. There is some sort of 'bike village' in the park as well. I am keen to see the event and hopefully take a few photos rather than just view it as a photo op but it would be good to meet up with some of you if possible. Is here a plan for meeting yet and what time are people going?
