I wonder if it'll be like the BBC show. Take good photographers and then strip away their powers to leave them producing sub-par images. Basically, can I do HDR?!?! ;)

Hmmmmm,

I don't think I've got time, I'll be spending most of August finishing off the building of the new network here...

I'm guessing it won't be 3 weeks out of work though.

I did read about this a while back, but thought it would just be full of pros, I mean who on here earned more the £30K just from photography.

Nice :) I have a feeling I may not get in as I mentioned I was shy, but I pointed out that photography has been the cure. Hopefully my HDR shots give me the edge. There's some seriously good photos on there. When did you submit your entry?

Mohain
19-07-2007, 11:45
I told them I can be shy too at first with people I didn't know. Submitted on Sunday.

There is some seriously good photography on there, but there is also some seriously average photography on there too.

Ah cool, however I admitted in the "Have you seen a shrink box?" that I did once see a cognitive behavioral specialist about trying to fix my shyness. Wish I could have edited that, stupid site. :D I did stress that photography pushes me to face my fear and that I do a lot of street photography for that reason and that well I wouldn't consider myself shy these days. Just look at my Hub shots. Lots of shots of hot girls :D

Well I'm pretty sure I haven't got through. Not going to tell you the format of the session in case anyone else is due to go. Will know for sure next week.

They said about 100 were shortlisted out of a thousand odd who entered (although there seem to be only about 500 on the website). Out of the 100 they are picking 6! Slim chance to get through and I really don't think I cut the mustard. Still, worth a punt and was fun :)

23-07-2007, 17:27
Ah :( I did get the impression they wanted both good photographers and good subjects for TV. No calls for me, guess I was too HDR for them ;)

As the interviews are all over and I got my phone call to tell me I hadn't got through I'll tell you what the format of the day was :)

There were 8 of us (well 7, all male one female didn't turn up) and we had to take in our favorite photo we'd taken (http://www.poijoy.com/mohain/gtbphotography/website/brutalist/images/urban_04.jpg) and secretly hand it in to the producers at the begining and a photo we wish we'd taken (http://gringoire.files.wordpress.com/2007/01/henri-cartier-bresson.jpg). Then in the group with the producers looking on we had to go round the table and introduce ourselves, talk a little about how you got into photography and what it means to you and show and explain why you picked the pic you wish you'd taken.

After that they said you've got 5 min to take 5 photos of anything you like in this room. It was a small boring conference room with one table, a few chairs, us, the producers and a box of 'props' (a few wigs, hats, sunglasses and a buddha statue). This is where I floundered around like a landed haddock ;) fumbling with my camera for 2 mins wondering why everyting looked 5 stops under in the preview screen even *** I was wide open and I was cranking up the ISO .... until I realised I had it in Tv, D'oh! I tried some cooky wide angles and perspectives with the 10-20 but TBH they were crap.

Then they went round one at a time and viewed the images on a plasma and you had to explain why you had taken the images you'd taken.

After that they gave us a statement typed on a peice of paper and told us to talk amongst ourselves about it. It said something along the lines of 'Police should be given powers to hold terror suspects indefinitely'. Odd one that ...

Then they bought in everyone's print and we each had to pick our favorites and least favorite and explain why. One bloke had a stunning picture using a wide angle lens at a kite festival on a stormy day, it stood out above everyone elses (even though someone picked mine, yay!), everyone picked the same shot for their least favorite, poor bloke!

Then they had a one-on-one where they talked to you about your portfolio, plans for your photography development etc.

It was a positive experience and it was nice to be picked. It has made me realise some of my weaknesses and has forced me to start my portfolio. It will make me finish some projects I've been half hartedly working on too :)

Looking forward to the 3-part program now which should be broadcast in 2008 sometime. Martin Parr is going to be a judge :)
