View Full Version : Wannabe Model... My 1st proper studio
For all those peeps following the saga of me falling out of a building on Tuesday. Dr says just badly bruised and I will survive. These shots were taken yesterday at the Bakery Studios near Wrexham. I was shadowing a pro for a wannabe model creating her portfolio. It was sheer agony, and I was grateful that I did not have to kneel.
Tried to post them last night, but wouldn't show in my gallery:shrug:
Hardly any fiddling or sharpening - just converted from RAW and Converted to B&W with the following.
Be gentle please.

Love the first one - fills the frame, nice light, tack sharp and she's facing the lens with a nice confident gaze.
2nd one - I'm not so keen on this one -nice pose but it lacks a bit of contrast for me. Might suit a mono high key treatment?
3rd. I'd have absolutely loved this if it wasn't for that hand - what's it doing there? :gag:
Promising though! :)
Thanks CT. Having read your comments and then looked again at the images - I have to agree about the hand. You see, the pro set up the poses and when he had finished, I just took a few for the practice.
What was interesting about no1 and I will remember the most about, was the model was up against the White background (c4ft). The pro moved from the front position and went in close to the left and asked her to look into the lens. The light shining over her left shoulder is in fact the light that he used to blow the background out. The effect was lovely as all the walls were painted Black. I thought it was a clever trick as it looks like a different studio set up, but every setting and light was exactly the same - I just moved to left.
Hope Janice reads this. Janice this won't work in our conservatories, unless we shoot it at night
Cedric - something like this, done in haste...

I much prefer that Gilly! It would be pretty easy to lose that stray arm and the dark bit lower down. ;)
Yep! I know what you mean. I just don't have time tonight. I agreed to upload my best untouched ones to the pro's site for him to use. I don't mind, as the session was free and meant to have been a learning experience. Mind you my name is in the exif file. hehe  I did learn a hell of a lot at the session.
Very good Gilly...well done. I too think the hand looks a bit artificial.........well not prosthetic...but a bit unnecessary! :D
last one looks good to me
Gilly, your mono edit of #2 is my fave
I liked #2 anyway but found the shoulder dominated the shot a little and her eyes looked a bit soft ... not so in the mono.
The mono really makes her eyes!
I do like the 1st shot but I think the light is slightly unflattering for her & gives her a tired look.
I cant believe a professional suggested she put her hand like that in #3!
I took a snap of myself like that once when I wrote a snippet for a nails mag ... whenever it crops up now I cringe like hell! :gag:
