Looking at the offer 283 and 284, don't know which one to go for and the descriptions are exactly the same and go on to describe a ball head rather than the 3way one supplied. Which should I really be going for? would prefer portability as my bag isn't that big. Thanks.

New site - obviously in the mayhem the descriptions got muddled up! Thanks for pointing it out.
With regard to the RS-283 & RS-284 the main difference is that the 284 'folds' up to a smaller length - 490mm as opposed to 620mm, which makes it more portable. The offset for this is that the 284 is 80mm shorter at full height.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your order Stephen.
The reason for no discount on this item is that it is on the 'Offers' page that, as mentioned in the ad, doesn't qualify for the discount - It has already been discounted by having a free head - sorry.

Not sure I should answer this - I'm a little biased! :)
The RS-283 is great value - try a search for Redsnapper and you should see other customers thoughts.
Also, you could read a report/review that a TP member wrote that is on the Redsnapper blog http://www.redsnapperuk.com/tripods-camera-cases/index.php/redsnapper-reviews/hello-world/
As for the price - We are under pressure with increased manufacture and material costs but we'll endeavour to keep the prices for as long as possible.

I was looking for a decent not too pricey tripod. Folks at dpreview.com referred me to TP and RedSnapper. The reviews had me sold, I bit the bullet and have just ordered my RS-324 & RSH-528 Head. Can't wait

(I hope I can learn to live with the 3-way head, never used one)

p.s. very professional looking website, good work!

I have just Received my Red Snapper RS-324 Tripod with RSH-12 Head and I am very pleased with it.

They were ordered yesterday lunchtime and delivered at 8:00 this morning. You can't do much better than that really.

I am very impressed with both the build quality and functionality of the kit, a little on the heavier side than I had anticipated (down to me not checking what 2.4 kg was like), but that does not matter at all, and the bag it came in is a good quality too.

All in all, I am very happy with Red Snapper.

Highly Recommended.

Why people spend out fortunes on other branded camera bag manufacturers when you can get a Snapper Duo for £45 DELIVERED is beyond me

You will NOT be disappointed.

Hi there,

this might be a bit of a silly question but I'm pretty new to photography. I just ordered the RS-283 tripod and RSH-24 3-way head but i can't seem to adjust the head to get the camera properly vertical - either way of doing it, it stops just short of properly vertical.

Otherwise, love the tripod. Still to get out and about with it properly but I have to echo everyone else's feedback on the excellent value for money not to mention fast delivery from Redsnapper! Hope they stock more accessories soon at the same great value prices! :)

Hi I have a few questions

Is the RedSnapper tripod compatible with say Manfrotto heads or are they all unique?

Is it worth going for the 283C Carbon Fibre Tripod or the normal RS-283? What is the difference on weight etc?

Will the free case accomodate the RSH12 Ball head too?

I too would be interested in whether the 10% off is still valid

Cheers!

I presume you mean best option on purchasing. This would be to purchase separately and use the 10% off code of RED10 when going through the shopping cart. The head comes with a QR plate so the plate you mention would be a spare - which again is what I think you're after.

Stupid question I know

The RS-283 and RS-284 don't go to the same height - the 284 is 80mm shorter at 1520mm. Remember to then add 100mm for a head and then approx. 80mm to the eyepiece of your camera.
You could always go for the RS-324 which at 1790mm fully extended will certainly be high enough - unless you take a box out with you!

I took receipt of my tripod on Tuesday after ordering late Sunday night. I'm very impressed with the quality of the materials and it compacts down to a great size. One unexpected delight was the quality of the bag to carry it in and the non-slip padding on the strap.

A mixture IIRC. (Correct me if I'm wrong Joe). I think where you attach the QR plate is metal, and obviously the thread etc is metal, but some of the fixtures are plastic. I think. If you're worried about the durability, or it being sturdy, then don't be. It's good quality gear

All parts are metal apart from the end covers and knobs.

Hi Joe,

Thinking of purchasing the: RS-324 & RSH-12 Head combo, but was wondering if this was a suitable/stable purchase for the 70-200mm / 70 - 300mm / 28 - 300mm lenses.

Forgive me but I'm a complete novice to tripods.

Currently have a D90 but looking to move up to either the D700 replacement or D300s replacement.

Cheers

The RS-324 & RSH-12 is the most stable combination we do. It will cope easily with the setup and future setup that you describe and more - it really is extremely strong.

Not a massive difference but it will save you about 0.4kg - We only stock the RS-283C however.
A good rule of thumb is if you are carrying your gear up to about 3 miles then you won't really notice the saving but more than that then it becomes a real benefit. If you can imaging carrying a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f4-5.6 IS for an hour then putting it down, you'd notice the saving.

Received my three RS-284s + RSH-24s today Joe, really really impressed with them so far. They have a few nice features like the extendable spikes, and the hook that I was hoping for but did not expect. Not had a chance to go out and shoot with one of them yet but tested one quickly with my gripped 40D and 70-200 2.8 and it was nice and stable- very pleased with my purchase so far! :D

Hi Joe,

I'm looking at either the RS-284 with RSH-12 ball head or the PG-01 grip.

I like the idea of the grip as it seems to offer quick positioning.

I have a Canon 50D & longest lens currently is 70-300 IS USM

I might get a sigma 150-500, not sure hoe the support setup for this type of lens works

Which would you rec' out of the above?

Hi, the RSH-24 head is out of stock that's why it won't add to the basket.
When you add to the basket with products and add your address then you get the shipping cost.
Our email client and server have been replaced last week and we're still getting problems with email deliveries but hopefully that will be sorted tomorrow.
The RSH-24 should be back in stock over the coming weekend or following Monday - the delivery charge to mainland UK (not highlands) is £7.95
Hope this helps

For wildlife I'd recommend a ball head as they move and lock very quickly.
We have two ball heads - the 'belt and braces' model is the RSH-12 head which will hold 10kg (not many camera + lens combinations weigh that much) or we have just had in a new model, the RSH-61, which can hold 5kg of equipment. The benefit of this smaller head is it weighs only 268gms.
The RSH-61 will be on the website this week but in the meantime the price is £39.95.

More like the RSH-12
It is 75mm high and the barrel is 34mm with a 25mm ball.
It's rated at max 5kg and weighs 268gms (all metal construction)
The QR plate matches the RSH-12 QR plate.

Yes, the small one locks the panning base and the large one does the ball movement.

Joe,

I wanted to ask if you have any plans to add panning clamps to your heads/tripods range? Something like this (http://www.sunwayfoto.com/html/products/000657.html)? I was looking to get one and RRS seems to be pretty expensive and there are not so many alternatives. The one on the link can replace the clamp on the RSH-12/RSH-61 ballheads with an added advantage of rotating independently head vertical axis.

Thanks

If you're using a 1Ds then I'd always plump for the best - the RSH-12.
Although the RSH-61 will handle your setup easily the RSH-12 is just that bit more robust.

Thought I could use the ball head for photography and the 3-way for Video on my little D3100.

I've just received the same as you and am also very pleased. Is the brass part for locking/unlocking the quick release lever? If you move the brass lever on mine it moves the locking pin out of the way so you can undo the black lever to release the plate. Then when replacing the the plate you press on the other brass part and the black lever snaps back.

Tripod is a lot better & more solid than I was expecting. At first fiddling with it, it feels more solid/stable than the Manfrotto Magfibre that I had on loan from a friend!

Big bonus is the well padded shoulder carry bag.

Looking for a ball head to use with a gorillapod (the slr-zoom model, rated to carry 3Kg), so don't want anything too heavy which will eat into that 3Kg. Would the RSH-61 be a good match? The heaviest I'd be putting on (of my current kit) would be a Canon 500d and the EFS 55-250 IS lens.

The RSH-61 would be very good - you won't need to get another head if you choose to get a different tripod either.
If the Gorrila pod has a small 1/4" thread then you will need an adaptor to get the head to fit - If you mention this when or if you purchase I'll drop one in the box with the head.

Thanks, Joe. I was trying to find out how much postage would be, so added it to my basket, put in the delivery address (in Hertfordshire) and it calculated £14.95. Is that correct? Is seemed quite a lot.

Great service from Redsnapper again, Ordered late Friday evening, arrived 8AM this morning.

Ordered the Monopod and ball head combo and the Snapper Duo Bag, they are both great quality and fantastic value for money, definitely recommended.

Thanks Joe for your help.

No - that's not correct. £14.95 is Northern Ireland.
It should come up £5.85 if you enter United Kingdom and England and Wales in the drop down boxes.

Thanks, Joe. I'd selected United Kingdom as country and then for the next drop down where it says "Select state/province if applicable" I thought state/province was not applicable for the UK, and I guess it must then default to the rate for Northern Ireland. May be worthwhile while making it mandatory to choose one of the options if the chosen country is UK. It shouldn't be hard to change the website code to do this, and you wouldn't run the risk of people being put off buying if they don't choose anything and get quoted £14.95 delivery by mistake.

What's the difference between the options "England and Wales" and "England and Wales: local pickup"? Both seem to be £5.85.

Just tried to order the RSH-12 (I say tried because windows started installing updates and shut itself down halfway through), but I noticed that even though the discount code RED10 was accepted, it didn't reduce the total at all. Is this code still active? I know it isn't valid for special offer items but I didn't see this head in the specials section.

Received my RSH-12 and Snapper Duo bag yesterday. Really pleased with them both. Thanks for the 10% discount

A couple of points

Although the paperwork inside the box clearly showed my name along with the delivery address, the shipping label just had the address with no name. Caused a bit of confusion as it was delivered to a business address where 1500 people work and the mail room had no idea who it was for!

Could do with an instruction sheet for the RSH-12. Can't work out the difference between the large and small knobs which lock the ball

Sorry about the address thing - bit of a mistake entering details this end!
With the ball head the small knob is to lock the panning movement, the midlle sized knob gives a friction setting on the ball and the large knob locks the ball.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

I have a SLIK sprint mini GM tripod (http://www.thkphoto.com/products/slik/slik-ss3.html), would your RS-PG01 Pistol Grip Head (http://www.redsnapperuk.com/camera-accessories/RS-PG01_Pistol_Grip_Head.html#nogo) fit it, or would I need a new tripod. I will be using a D90 with a 50mm lens, so not much weight.

Shouldn't it always be around £5? Where is the local pick up from?

Local pick up is Banbury in Oxfordshire.
The shipping charges are for an overnight service as standard and are just passed on from what we get charged.
(Royal Mail recorded for a tripod and head is £9.72).

Just had a good look at your site, came perilously close to ordering the 284 with a 528 (although i might go for the 284 with 24 head) head until i saw delivery costs. Tried the RED10 code but it keeps saying code not recognised? EDIT: My bad, it does work, i just put a space after it, noob lol :D

How come the code doesnt work for the RS-284 and RSH-24 3-way head?

Both heads will fit the monopod but ideally for ease of use and light weight the RSH-61 would be best for the monopod.

Following lots of positive comments regarding the quality of redsnapper gear I ordered a tripod and 3way head from their site. I arranged with Joe to call in and collect it on my way to a business meeting and I cannot commend enough their service and customer friendly attitude. I ended up paying a bit more for the ball head after Joe and I chatted about the differences between the two and time spent looking at each. They are a great company to do business with and deserve our support. I for one will look to them first to see what else they've got before spending with the big bullyboys
