View Full Version : Nikon announces new 35mm f/1.4, 200mm f/2
And then there were nine. That's the total number of lenses Nikon has introduced in 2010, including the new AF-S 35mm f/1.4G and AF-S 200mm f/2G ED VR II, announced today.

both are outside of my price range I'm afraid.

What's an average photographer. And is a five grand lens aimed at him/her?

I want them both - especially the 35/2. Highly unlikely I'll get either of them as this year's equipment spend as gone through the roof
Having said that I'm beginning to think Nikon's lens prices are getting a little out of hand :(
I wonder if there will be a revision to prices when they realise that people aren't buying in great numbers. The audience these lenses are aimed at (pros) aren't exactly swimming in profits at the moment thanks to various economic factors. Sure, some of the superstar landscape photographers will be interested in the 35. As will some of the big earners in the weddings/journalism fields. But the average pro/advanced amateur is really going to struggle to justify the spend imho.
Of course, this is just sour grapes as I know that buying either of these may result in a kick in the *******s
35 f/1.4 looks nice, but one of the advantages of the current f/2 version is that it's so compact - this looks a bit beeeeg...
As for the 200mm...well with an almost £2k price-hike over the existing one which already costs £3k, maybe not... not just for VR-II and an extra button...lol
I have to agree, the 35/2 seems like a far better useful lens. Lighter, smaller, and just that one stop slower. If only they'd updated it to be just as sharp as these new breeds :)
That said, I wouldn't mind that 24 f/1.4 :p
