I just picked up my D700 yesterday and to try out the higher ISO on it i took a few pics and want to view them on my pc.I already have a D300 which when i shoot in RAW the files are opened via CS4, however the D700 Raw images arent opening. I can view on the camera but they wont transfer to the pc.Any ideas?
I think you need the update for CS4 so that it can recognise the files from the D700....

Have you downloaded the appropriate update from the Adobe site to allow CS4 to view the D700 NEF files?

Nope, just thought that the D700 files would be similar to the D300 ones. Is it a free download or do you need to pay for it?
ACR is free to download. Think you need 4.5 for CS4 and D700

There is a sticky thread I did to help with people in this situation here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=190737).
I've hopefully made it easier to find the right version of ACR anyone needs, and whether it is compatible with the version CS/Elements people have. :)

It searched for updates but none were found.:help:
It's strange you're not able to open the D700's RAW files - CS4 ships with Camera Raw 5 so it should open them without having to download updates.

Download Nikon View NX - that's free and you can do some 'simple' editing for any current Nikon digital camera and most that are older (if not all).

Details for updating the ACR file is at the bottom of the page ryanboy posted, though the latest version of ACR you can use with CS4 is v5.7 (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4681).
Having a 'copy' of CS4 may stop auto updates, but should not stop you from manually putting the Camera Raw .8bi file in the correct place.

When i double click it opens up my CS4. I then plug in my D700 and it recognises the D700 but wants me to open in Camera wizard with no option to open in CS4

Right-click a NEF file, select OPEN WITH - is CS4 in the list?
PS. Stick a NEF file on the desktop first.

I went into my computer and found the D700, dragged a file to my desktop, right click and found CS4, opens file fine.
I connect cable to pc, turn camera on and it opens up the camera wizzard with no option for CS4. I open in camera wizzard and it cant see any files at all on the camera.
Going out for 30 mins to pick up daughter will reply when i get back.

Just cancel the Camera Wizard and transfer the files from the camera to the PC as you did previously.

Good - that's the CS4 side of it sorted. :)

That's Windows' Camera & Scanner Wizard butting in. It's sussed out you've connected the D700 and it's assuming you want to upload pictures to the PC. You need to tell it to 'take no action'. Which version of Windows have you got?
If you can't see any folders or files on the D700, either the CF card is empty or it's not in the camera.

Something somewhere is not set.
Plug the D700 in & switch it on (with CF card containing pics) / go to Control Panel / Devices and Printers / double-click D700 / double-click Browse Files.
A new window should open - there should be a drive symbol for the D700. Double-click that and it should take you to the parent folder on the CF card (called DCIM). The picture files are in DCIM.

I never used my camera(s) connected in this way..... but, isn't there a camera setting for "mass Storage" devices or summat it like that? No manual with me - at work :(
PS. To change camera wizard:
Plug the D700 in & switch it on (with CF card containing pics) / go to Control Panel / Devices and Printers / double-click D700 / double-click Change Settings.
There should be a line "When this device connects to this computer" and a dropdown box next to it.
Click the dropdown arrow and select the option you want - e.g. Adobe Bridge or Browse Files or Take No Action.
Hit OK.
Here it is in Windows 7

In the setup menu, check the USB settings. You may have it set to "MTP/PTP" as opposed to "Mass Storage". Set it to "Mass Storage" and you should be good to go .... got this from another forum. It may help..... I've seen this before which is why I mentioned it earlier. Apologies if I'm wrong ;)
Control panel/printers and other hardware/scanners and cameras/D700
Right, you're at step 5 below.
Disabling camera wizard in Windows XP
1. Connect D700 & switch on.
2. Go to Start / Control Panel.
3. In Control Panel, open Printers and Other Hardware (if the Control Panel is in Classic View, skip to the next step).
4. Open Scanners and Cameras.
5. In the Scanners and Cameras window, right-click on D700 and choose Properties.
6. Click the Events tab.
7. On the Select an event pop-up menu, choose Camera Connected and then select "Take no action" in the Actions area.
8. Click OK.

Ok... read a bit further on..... Nikon have removed this from later cameras (ie not in the D700 setup menu)
Going to sleep now!
If you want to run Adobe Bridge instead - go to step 7 above and tick PROMPT FOR WHICH PROGRAM TO RUN instead of TAKE NO ACTION.

Did you look at that link? Even Nikon state there needs to be Windows XP service pack 2 for the USB drivers to be working.

Seeing the camera and getting the files that are on the card are not necessarily one and the same thing.

Yes, but Mark can drag files from the CF card to the desktop (post 24) so his XP must be reading the card.
He's trying to stop the pesky camera wizard from telling him what to do - he wants to tell it what to do instead (e.g. use Adobe Bridge).
