View Full Version : Mersey River festival.
Two b&w pics from this weekends river festival.
C&C welcome & appreciated as usual
1. A suspicious juggler, not too sure on the colour in this scene but the completely b&w version looked too plain & there was something not quite right about the coloured one either

2. Saxamaphone player

Cheers for looking
Lovely shots both, Mike. Where the juggler has his hand I suspect he thinks he may have lost one!! :naughty: :D
Sax player is a superb shot. (Is he playing the Frog Chorus.....one has jumped out of his sax !!) :D

I paid that guy to play my copyright theme tune
Thanks for the comments

That saxophone player is perfect! The variations of black with no loss of detail I just think is superb. It is one of the nicest portraits I've seen in a while.

Love the sax player shot, as Renee said, good range of tones in there. As for the juggler - I wondered where Arkady had gotten to  :exit:
The sax player is a great image, the tones are spot on!
I like both Mike
The juggler looks scarily serious, has a similar expression to the child catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
I think your colour treatment on his balls works well and definately adds to the shot :gag:
Its all been said already about the sax player ... cool shot

The sax player is absolutley awesome - one of the best shots I've seen for a while!
I'm sure the juggler in isolation would be fine, as there is nothing wrong with it, it's just completely in the shade of saxamaphone dude when viewed side by side

 Cheers Steve - he actually balanced his hat on his nose too in a shot I'm working on - poser

Great pics Mike, dont you ever stop for a rest ?.
Like the colour mix thing you got going on, did you pinch that of my Wedding shots ?. Hope to meet up with soon, and i managed to rescue the zoo shots from the card.
 well done mate both very good
 if i could say one thing about the sax man ? i would love to see the same shot with the sax in colour now that would be cool .. only imo though.
tfs mate cheers
I really like the second. The colour in the first spoils it for me, it drags me away from him and fights for attention.

Cheers mate, have loads more, will try to find time to sort through some asap

Just a technique I don't use very often, I can't normally make it work & most of the time feel like Dod does about the attention thing. Think you have made it work in your shots though (Congrats on saving the shots btw )

I'll see what I can do, cheers for the comment

Yup, think I may agree with you there, cheers for the comment mate
Really like the second one and I like the colour in the first. How do you do that??
I created a black & white version of the image & made sure that I left a colour version underneath it - I then just masked out the juggling balls in the B&W layer to show the coloured layer underneath. You can also do this with the history brush or even the eraser for a very quick method but I prefer to have total control over the colour & how much is shown/removed.
If I were you, I'd read up on how to use masks as it was easily the most important photoshop lesson I have ever learned & is used in every single image I work on

I'll go with the flow on this, the sax player is excellent, talk about mood, this has it and more.
The sax player is superb. I like the first one too but it really doesn't need the gimmick of the partial colour - I think it works well as it is. ;)
