OK Guys let's carry on here!!
next 5D should have a 1.3X crop sensor and weather proofing, THEN it would be ideal :p
Why would you want to upgrade a Mk III? It's fine as it is.

Digic III, 5fps, FF and weather sealing would be a good start for the 5D. Suggests a 3D may be on the cards and this spec would fulfil the gap between the 1 and the 5 in the digital range as it does in the film :)

Much prefer the apparent increase in focal length and the opportunity to use the sharper centre of the lens. Cant be doing with all this ultra wide angle nonsense (lights blue touchpaper and runs) :p It does depend on what you shoot of course ;)

Maybe the 40D will become the above :)
Doubt it, can't see them merging two product lines to become one.

They don't need to merge product lines !!
40D = 1.3x crop and weather sealing in a prosumer body
5D MKII = full frame and weather sealing in a prosumer body
