I've just bought my first DSLR (Conon 400D,kit lens) and I'm now looking to get a longer lens. Now as much as I'd like an L series lens my credit card woul run away never to be seen again if I bought one:'(

I've narrowed my search down to 2 contenders

http://www.jessops.com/Store/s955/0/Lenses/Canon/EF90-300mm-f-and-4-56-Non-USM-(Black)/details.aspx?&IsSearch=y&pageindex=1&CatId=143&comp=n

or

I'm not too worried about the extra macro facility on the sigma (though it would be handy) but I would like your thoughts on which is the better lens please.

The second lens you have listed is the old model, you want to buy the Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro, it has a red ring around the top of the lens.

The Sigma is an excellent lens for the money.

But.... you can get a Canon 70-200 F4 L for £350 on ebay brand new if you can stretch that far.

Get a quote from Kerso. Tends to be a lot cheaper than Jessops.

Also consider: EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
