I've been quite impressed with the bargains you can find on older Nikon lenses used. Here's a useful guide to some of the more outstanding ones.

and here are some reliable places to look for these sorts of cheap classics.

I use several excellent A1s lenses that I already had. My particular fav is my 135mm f2 that I picked up on fleabay for next to nothing. Also use regularly a Nikkor 300 F4.5 IFED which is a cracker. Looking for a good price on a 300 f2.8.Great lenses and lots of bargains to be had.

I LOVE NIKKOR LENSES

I found one of the very early (non-D) 135/2 DC lenses a few months ago for a silly price and I love it. I've also got a non-D 180/2.8 (crinkle finish version) which is about the sharpest lens I've ever used, micro-nikkors included. Again I got it for a silly price because it's old and non-D. I've been quite tempted by some of the AI/AIS lenses, but I don't fancy trying to focus with them on my D200.

Having said that, you can get a very nice price on an FM2n or FM3a too :)
