This is a huge step for me. Ever since high school I suffered from bad acne. The local bullies thrived on this and teased me something chronic. The acne left me with what I can only call 'holey' (not holy by all standards) skin. Ever since, I have had a complexion about getting in front of a camera and having my photograph taken. Its not a sob story, just a hurdle which I want to be able jump. This is first step.

I tried to reflect this feeling with a dark, up-lit, almost uncomfortable shot. Maybe in time this will become more relaxed which of course, will be shared here.

Let me know your thoughts.

King.

Powerful! The black shadow on the nose does rather dominate though?

Was thinking that too,.. tried to rid it with a bit of editing but only made it worse.

Will try another series soon with the onboard flash set to throw just a tiny bit of fill flash. This might lighten it a bit.

Now though, I have a beer to finish :D

i can see what you mean about the shadow on the nose but imo it adds to the dark feel of the shot ..

Looks like self portraits are the flavour of the month......(see new avatar).

Your eyes look great in this......but having just watched "Jekyl and Hyde" , I'll be watching to see if they suddenly change.....

Feeling a new 'What do you look like thread?' coming on perhaps?

Agreed.. extra powerful because of the context that you put it in.

Would I be wrong to say that I find it a bit scary? I don't mean that you yourself are scary.. I dunno.. it's the eyes.

Very good though

Not at all. The up-lighting technique is reminiscent of the classic horror film days. The image might be triggering a memory of such lighting used in a horror film?

I actually thought of it as my brother used it to scare the crap out of me doing it in the middle of the night when we were younger,... :bonk:

Thats a great shot mate - really compelling (struggled not to use powerful again!!).

Maybe the flash / light source was a little too close creating the dark nose shadow.

Top work though and well done for getting over that hurdle!

Think so. Will try again tomorrow evening when the littlin' goes to bed :-)

Cheers for the tips guys and girls.

Night night.

Well done on overcoming the first hurdle  Great self portrait, although it is a little scary (in a horror film kinda way) as mentioned earlier.

Well played matey. I personally like the image. The shadow on the nose doesn't bother me, infact I think it works quite well. N1 :)

I like it, but as has been said perhaps too much shadow on the nose.

How about tilting the head downwards abit more with the eyes looking up into the camera?, may give it a more sinister look and the light may creep onto the nose abit...doesn't need much though imo.

**edit, have you seen your post count on this page? 666!
