I going to purchase a new lens:thumbs:

But I'm not sure which one, the two I'm looking at are:

24-70mm F2.8 EX DG Macro
&
28-70mm f2.8 EX DG

Should I spend the extra £40-50.00 to get the macro Mode?
(I haven't tried macro yet, but after seeing MK's posts!)

And is the Macro mode on this lens any good?

Thanks in advance:thumbs:

Personally i'd stick to a prime lens for macro because its an uncompromising discipline. Also, does this lens achieve 1:1 magnification? If not, you'd probably be disappointed in the results

NO!!!!! its ratio is 1:3.8. This is NOT a macro lens by any stretch

Any zoom lens that offers a macro option just means it can focus closer than you would normally expect. It is a nice option to have if something comes with it, but not something you should pay for or expect too much from. I do not think any offer better than 1:2 reproduction where as modern macro lenses offer 1:1 'lifesize'.

Depending on the type of shots you take though the 24-70mm lens might be worth the extra cost for the extra 4mm at the wide end.

Its a marketing feature. Its not a real macro lens as others have said.
