Fresh out of the shower this morning, having only dried my hair a little. I decided to shed my clothes and have a go  [Thank your lucky stars I cropped it tight  ]

Does it work? I tried to brighten my left eye, but it just looked weird, so left it in the end. Other than that it's been softened and cropped. That's about it.

The necklace has very special meaning to me, I didn't have the heart to clone it out, and it never leaves my neck... so that stays ;)

Is it that bad? :embarrassed:

It's a wee bit dark jojo and perhaps a bit too much softening - but the pose and eye contact is good:thumbs:

Any better  I forget not many folks like things dark and moody like me  Plus darkness can hide a lot of sins.

Oi! ... I like dark & moody ... or is it that I just am dark & moody!
Something isnt quite working for me ... though it has a dark, mysterious, & soft kind of feel to it, which I do like, its lacking something ... a little contrast maybe?
Also I think the long vertical crop sits at odds with the close crop on the face,
jmo of course.

Very poetic, good way with words! I might steal that line.

Just seen this! The eye contact is the thing that hit me first - absolutely spot on - agree with Lady P that its a tad too dark intially 2nd one ismuch better! Overall a very sultry and intimate effect you've achieved. Thumbs up from me!!

I like dark & moody Jojo
Think that I prefer the 1st one personally but you oversoftened it IMO including the eyes.
If you are going for dark & moody then I'd recommend going all the way & making sure people know it's supposed to be dark & not just underexposed if you get my meaning - adding slight vignetting to the corners may help along with making sure the whites of your eyes are... well... white () to add contrast to the scene. Final thing I'd recommend is to use a black border & white stroke to emphasise the overall look & feel of the image & complement the whites of the eyes as a focal point
This is just my opinion obviously as everyone likes different images & styles & may not agree with me.
Overall I think that it's a very nice portrait though

First one is nicer Jojo, second one looks a tad more like a snapshot. First one is a little more dreamy. Nice.

I like the first one, though it could do with a little less softening. The hightlight in the eye seems a little hard to me, perhaps that is my monitor though. The highlight in the second picture looks better.

Nice one :)

OK, since I was bored stiff on the night shift I decided to have one more play with this one.
Let me know what you think, because if you all think it's good enough I might get one printed off and framed for my mum, since it's been about 12 years since she had one of me  And just to mention that the outer grey edge is only there so you can see where it starts and ends on the white screen, if printed off that will be removed.

How does black and white look (stop groaning, i hear you..)?

There isn't much color tone in there anyway, b&w might give it a bit more impact.

 I think I may just give up on it, or just keep the first one.

Thanks guys

I think you are very brave, I hate having my picture taken and wouldn't know where to start with a self portrait. Maybe I could learn something by giving it a try.
I think you've framed it nicely and the lighting and exposure are good. I definitely prefer the dark one but I too would be interested to see it in B&W or desaturated.
I'll tread carefully here because you look lovely and I don't wish to offend but I can't help getting the feeling from the set of your mouth that I'm about to be told off? How about reshooting with just a hint of a wry or cheeky smile?
