POTY 2007 - Round 7 - Reflect [Archive]

Welcome to Round 7 of the TP : Photographer of the Year 2007.

Please use this thread to discuss the competition, and specifically the current round, and your interpretation of it. Also feel free to discuss ideas and thoughts etc. :) While there is an anonymous nature to the submissions and voting, there's no need to be secretive about ideas and the like. While we'd all like to win :D...the competition is for all of us to help improve our photography :)

So, on with this months theme, which is "Reflect". This can be either reflections, someone thinking, something meaningful, or anything you choose. Decide what the word "Reflect" means to you, and portray it in a shot (Or take a shot and shoehorn it into the theme :D)

The cut off for submissions to be received is 23:59 on the 31st July 2007

The winner of this round will receive an a4 or a3 sized print of their winning shot.

Please email your correctly sized entries, with your forum username in the subject or body of the email, to competition@talkphotography.co.uk

Have fun shooting, and remember, it's all aimed at getting us thinking about our photography more, and hopefully improving our skills, but more importantly, it's about having fun doing what we enjoy doing, and thats taking and sharing pictures.

So get your thinking caps on ladies and gentlemen, and go and shoot something with the theme of "Reflect".

At no point ever did a thread appear with the comp subject as "Animals". Nor was it moved within literally a few minutes (By god you're too quick :D).

Animals is next month I think (Although dont quote me on that)

Please excuse the ignorance here - but can anyone enter these contests...? or does one have to have been a member on here for some time in order to qualify...?

I only got my first digital SLR yesterday and joined up yesterday too.

Next, and hopefully final question. Does hte submitted image have to be 'untouched-up' by Photoshop or similar application and a direct image captured by your camera - or can you sue Lightroom/Photoshop to make image adjustments etc...?

Touch up as much as you like :) (Just remember it's a photography competition, not a Photoshop competition).

There are no set rules of how much photoshopping is too much though.

I was thinking borders/edges etc... :)

Thats fine. The only thing we ask is that you dont put a personal tag on it (like I do with my pics), just to keep it as anonymous as possible really :)

Ditto - the weather just isnt playing ball for my original plan, but I did get something, so didnt need the back up shout I grabbed right at the begining of the month.

i didnt always get the member name of entrants so i just used the name on email, look down the list and see if your on it...

Nope, I've sorted it, there were 5 entrants without their point for entering that month.

Marcel - what's next months theme? I have literally just arrived back here in the UK from Dubai on business and am away on holidays in Cyprus tomorrow for 2 weeks. Do you know what next months theme is so I may be able to have a think when I am there?

Do all the people who entered the comp basically vote on each other? or is it outsiders who do voting?, As you can tell this is first time i have never entered one of these before. Some nice entrys, just shame not too many..

All who entered are able to vote but it's not the done thing to vote for your own pic ;) Of course you don't have to have entered the comp to vote

Im going to look really thick here but either I dont understand how the leaderboard is worked out ... or Ive been robbed! :eek:

According to Matty's graph here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=20845&page=2 I got 5 points on my one & only comp entry (b&w) but its only showing 1 :'(

Is that correct, do we only get 1 point if we dont come in the top 3? :thinking:

Dunno why Im whingeing, its not like Im even going to scrape the top 10 ... but you never know... I may have a HUGE comeback shot for next month :lol:

As I remember it the top (10?) positions in the month get points based on that position (not actual votes) the rest get 1 point for entering. You got 5 votes but didn't get up into the point scoring positions.

Oh and I agree the entries are good and I'll need a couple of days to decide too :)

Yup, Robert's right. The number of votes are irrelevant in the years scoring.
Everyone gets points according to their position on that months results.

Like Robert says, you got 5 votes, but it wasnt enough to make it into the top 10, so you only get your point for entering.

Reflect would have been one of my favourite subjects, just could not get an internet connection abroad to enter this time :bang:. Thought I would post a few 'would have beens', although none of my own would have beaten this months competition in my view!
