View Full Version : The Bride

I went to one of my friends weddings a few days ago, as a secondary photographer to the two pro's she paid for the day. I've not done any wedding photography before but thought I'd share this.
Its my favourite shot of the day, and it will be the brides too of my shots at least as this is her horse and she hasn't seen it for over 3 years. So not only was the big day special but seeing her horse again made it even more so. She was overwhelmed when she first saw Starlight (the horse) and everyone got a bit watery eyed as she started crying. She looked so happy to see her, it was really a lovely moment.
There was a crowd of people around her at this point so I was standing back and trying to pick shots off through the gaps in people!

I noticed you didn't have the image editing option on, but do you mind if i post an example? It would be far easier to explain my opinions if you could see them in practice, and also easier for myself to explain. :p
The composition of this shot is excellent, and the lighting is brilliant as well, but theres a few niggles that i would change. Really tiny things, but something i feel your friend would notice as its a photo of her self. There is a lot of detail in the dress that can be brought out without making it overpowering, the skin tone is slightly too harsh , and the background too bright. The hand is overexposed, and theres some dimples/skin creases that have harsh shadows, but these can be taken care with some quick cloning.
Hope i haven't come across as too negative, and regardless if any of these little things were changed, its still an excellent photo.

It's a great photo that captures the moment very well .... You should be proud ...
I think this is a lovely image that the bride will treasure for years to come. Well done, it is excellent and really conveys the love and emotion.

To be fair, I've not actually spent any time editing this image. I literally resized and uploaded. When I prepare it for printing I will make a few small adjustments, but nothing to crazy as I personally don't think its too far off the mark as it is. But thanks for the pointers, appreciated :)
Thanks to everyone else too :)
You have captured a lovely moment there. Well done.
Stunning image - the girl obviously adores her horse & this will be a treasured pictures for a loooong time!
Really well done to have captured the moment.
If I was to edit it at all I think Shadows + Highlights to 5%, no more. Just to bring out a tiny bit more detail in the horses head. I think its a lovely shot and it doesn't really need much doing it to it as the moment stands out more than the editing.
