Living near Rivington I thought I'd go and try to copy a shot that was in EOS magazine a few issues ago.

Not till I got home and looked at the images did I realize how much you have to watch the light. The first two shots are take 8 minuets apart as the sun was setting. These have not been edited apart from resize and smart sharpen.

The first one is a great shot, and the other two look positively ordinary by comparison. Presumably in the last two the sun had set completely?

 I find its pointless doing otherwise, the light makes good things happen, as your first shot shows. Nice shot, nice comp too.

A good example of "Carpe Diem".

I can whole heartedly agree with you on this one! I went up to the Terraced Gardens last week to take a few shots. As I still use a 35mm SLR it wasn't until i'd had the film processed that i realised how flat the pictures looked (overcast day). Most of my shots came out just like your 2nd and 3rd, but what a difference the lighting makes to your 1st! i love it!

Don't want to hijack your thread by posting mine, but i have put a few on my deviantart page if you fancy a look (in my sig)
