Got my Nikon D40 a few weeks ago. Have *a hell of a lot* to learn and not very technically-minded :shake: but very determined!!! ;)
Have read and seen some great stuff on here and thought it was about time I offered up some of my first pics...now i'll be really embarrassed if this doesn't work! hehe ;)

Nice, if you are lacking in technical skill you are certainly making up for it in creativity :)

All things considered, that's a wonderful set.
Congratulations.
Great first set.
I feel sometimes that the more experienced with the teccie bits of the camera I get, I forget the key principles in the art of good photography. I think that's why some of my work is getting worse not better. Trying to be clever and do everything on manual - had one of my cameras ISO set on 1600 on a bright day photographing a wedding - good job my other camera was set at 100.
You have done extremely well with these shots and I particularly like the rainbow and catherdral shots.

eek - I just joined today and can't imagine being able to put up such a good set.
I'd like to add that I really, really like the first one - which is not to say anything against the others.
Some really good shots there. I'm not really into flower shots so they don't do much for me. The first is the best imho. Do more of them :)

Like the first and last one best.
The water on the last one I like.

Hi,
really good these and I always like how the Nikon shows greens on images, always deep and vibrant.

To be honest, I reckon you could get shots this quality from a digital compact. Whats best about these shots is the composition and the view. Photographer > camera.

Gotta love #1, i like the contrast between natural tree (left) and man made 'tree' (right). The rays through the clouds make the shot. Always nice to get a couple of framers in the first batch!!
Now the hard work really begins, keeping up the standard!!

I'm so pleased with all these comments - very reassuring and encouraging - thank you so much! :)
A very nice first set as everyone else has already said. You have a good eye for a picture.:)
Some nice shots there. I like the first one a lot. I've been meaning to take advantage of the brightly sunlit forground against a dark stormy situation for a while. Never seem to manage it well.
Keep up the good work :)
I've heard a few togs say that you can learn the technical bits of photography, but you can't be taught to see the picture.
So my only bit of criticism is that the first three images look a bit noisey (technical) probably due to a high ISO.
