I can never really tell how well my post processing goes because I am not sure whether monitor is configured that well. (cheapo 19" lcd! :) )
This was taken with a 550EX on top of camera at 1/64 power pointed away from me and a 430EX as slave to my left about 3 or 4 ft away. I just cropped a little and desaturated with some curve adjustment.
What do you think?

I like it. I can't decide whether I'd like to see a bit more of the dark side of the face or just take the levels down, get a good black, and lose that side altogether - it just seems it needs to go one way ot the other? A dark shirt would be less distracting and help the low key look.
Excellent effort though.... never easy! :)

Thankyou :)
My intention was to have the left side of my face lit and the other dark, so I pretty much got what I planned for...makes a change!!
The shirt, you are probably right, but I don't think that far!
I want to see what I get with a reflector, and perhaps some back lighting. My wife liked the photo that much that she wants me to take one of her like that as well......she never wants her picture taken! (and she is a photographer!) She will divorce me on the spot if I post it here though!
I like that pic Andy, agree completely with CT's comments about going completely black or adjusting the levels & definitely agree with the black shirt idea too, think it would add a lot more atmosphere to the shot.
I also like the idea of backlighting, looking forward to the results
Very nice portrait overall though mate, very nicely done
:agree: and lose the watch

Not many of us are too comfortable on that side of the camera.:D
