well ......... not really first attempt - more like quite a few attempts. Seeing as I haven't got a remote release it was a bit hit and miss as to whether I was in focus or not - is there an easy way to do it???
Anyway this is the result C&C welcome!:)

I think you have got that spot on, nice lighting and catch lights. Also your hair frames your face really well. Plus a very nice model too :p
I don't think I would have the patience without a remote release! Mine is a wired version and you have to be within 3ft of the camera without looking too strained! You can get IR remotes from ebay I think fairly cheaply but don't know what they are like.
Perhaps a long stick would help?

yep, I've got one of those:lol:
Thanks for your kind comments;)
:agree: nothing much wrong with that. Nothing at all.
Very nice pic :)
As for remotes I've got the normal wired canon release but (as usual) you can buy extension wire on e-bay (although if you can use a soldering iron you can make your own extension for a few pounds).

Ditto what everyone else has said. Good framing and lighting :)
Never been keen on sepia though, colour or B&W

Thanks guys.
I just thought the sepia tone softened it a bit - looked a bit harsh in just BW;)
Cant really offer any advice as I havent tried the self-portrait bit with a DSLR myself yet.
Anyhow, just thought I would add to the other comments and say thats a really rather lovely portrait... Id be well chuffed if I could produce a self portrait like that.

very nice. Had a play with self portraits the other night, used the camera tethered to the laptop with a wireless mouse, seemed to work out well.

Very nice for a first off LP ... ... good eye contact and great composition imgo ... :D
I do think the eyes are just a touch soft but overall this is not necessarily a bad thing ...
Your model ain't too bad either ... ;)

 :naughty:
Agree with the Ven - eyes are a little soft but given the set up not surprising.
Adam makes a good suggestion that you measure out the focal distance from the camera. Otherwise, try tethered shooting with your computer or a smaller aperture and increased lighting.

thanks peeps;)
I will try some more once I've bullied some of my family or friends into sitting for me:D
Great shot LP, very nice framing, expression & model
Wish I'd have thought of the fixed focus & tape measure thing when I was doing my self portraits, you learn something new every day :p
I am also going to have to give this tethered shooting thing a go now, sounds complex though!
