For a first attempt those are excellent!

You have left the exif in so I can see the camera settings. Shutter priority is OK if you need a fast shutter to freeze the action. I'd have thought 1/1000th or 1/500th would have been fast enough.* These seem to be around 1/2000th which means the lens is wide open (or nearly so) and a touch softer than it could be.

When you resize pictures down you need to sharpen them and these would all look better with a sharpen.

All in all an impressive first outing!

* edit: that said a large aperture is sometimes desirable to throw the background out of focus and if the lens works well wide open why not try aperture priority?

Look good mate, as I said before it will get a lot easy half way through the season!

RobertP - I did all the photography last season for the subject team and anything less then 1/2000th for the action shots and you just couldn't freeze the action enough! For the shot of the dog and the groundman yeah dair enough slow down to 1/500th but for the actual game shots its really surprising how fast u have to go.

Search the forum for threads by Diego Garcia for sports shots.

I just looked back at one and he seems to shoot aperture priority.... and as you say action shots are up around the 1/1600th 1/2000th sort of range.

I stand corrected :)

The second image is a great action shot, the third an excellent candid portrait. The rest are really more snapshots I think with various faults from softness to being off level. The fifth would be better with a less busy background, both players heads tend to disappear into the buliding. Next time you're down by the football field have a look around for a more suitable position to shoot from and pay attention to the background, especially when you have things like railings that need to be spot on level in shot.
