This is one of those places that looks a lot better in the sunshine.... but I'll post the brightish cloudy day shots anyway :)

The castle is something you can't miss if you are on the road to Skye heading north.

Made a complete mess of the exposure on this one... more that a bit exposed to the right! Still I liked the portcullis detail so here it is.

Arran and Mull had been so quiet it was a bit of a shock having fellow tourists everywhere!

The castle is in a very nice setting and some of the exhibits (no photography allowed :( ) were quite well done, but I have to admit that I lost interest in the place when I read about its origins. According to a poster inside it was reconstructed from ruins in the 1920's and the plans were based on what somebody saw in their dream as to how it should look!

Could try pushing the sats and abit of dodge and burn in the 1st... its a good composition.

Thats the Highlander Castle isnt it?

I think with some work #1 could be a really nice shot, just needs a bit of vibrance.

Quick and dirty:

If you find the bright centre a bit overpowering OG is probably on the right track with a bit of burning. The trick will be not to overpower the castle with a too overdone sky. A light dodge of the castle walls should even the balance. Good luck with it, the composition deserves it.

Sorry - but dont forget the castles reflection when you dodge:bonk:

Some nice shots. It's just a pity that the weather wasn't too favourable. I have earmarked this castle for a visit sometime, hopefully this year.

The only niggle with the images is the vignetting in 3 of the 4 pictures. A slight bit of PP'ing and you're sorted.

Glad to see you stopped of Robert - I shot this on the way to Skye and on the return back ! How far out in the mud did you wade ?

How far out in the mud did you wade ?

Like that was going to happen!

Strax - This was my first outing (Scotland trip) with filters and vignetting drove me nuts! Even the ring that holds the mount - no plastic mount just the ring - caused vignetting at 24mm on the 24-105 and 17-40 was unusable below about 22mm even with my cut down holder. I eventually stopped using the holder at all and just held the filter in front of the lens!

These shots already have the worst of the vignetting cropped off. I know I could edit the rest out but it's the sort of thing I never get round to :)

:) I must have been lucky with mine in Feb - Tide was out or something .... I wandered into the seaweed !
Mine is a similar shot, but I have more of the arches of the bridge in the shot and less of the range behind...

You weren't beaten by your composition (which is excellent), or your PP or your vignetting, or your equipment, but by your light, and at the end of the day, if yer lights not right, you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.:)

That looks a little extreme - but I like it :)
