Horny beetles and a runaway ladybird!

Skived out of work early today and went for a walk in my local park. Its my first venture out with the D40x, and i thought it would be nice to have a play around with it.

Being newish to this kind of thing, i wasn't sure what to expect from the 18-55mm lens and just found an enormous clump of thistles and got trigger happy! Stupidly, I left my tripod in the car so a lot of potentially good shots ended up just out of focus, but i'll know better for next time!

These little Bee Beetles where everywhere!

And some little ladybird trying to reenact the famous scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark! (sorry ive had a hard day).

thanks guys, never thought i'd manage to stay so still! had to get darn close with the kit lens and ended up covered in bugs!
