Short and sweet..

Are these two models basically the same?
By looking on Google it seems (at least on the exterior) that they identical.

Yep. S5200 is what it's called in America, I think.

why? are you thinking of getting one? i currently own an S5600 and wouldn't really recommend it now lol i would go for the new S5700 or the S6500. The features on the 5600 are limited and the megapixel isn't really great for taking detailled pics.

Meh. I don't think so. Megapixels isn't all that matters. I've made A4 prints that have come out with only minor pixelating round the edges.

It aint as good as a DSLR but it's not far off IMO :)

I ask because I have an S5200 (even though Im in the UK? My boyfriend bought it for me for my birthday) and Im looking for lens/filters, and theyre very limited for my model, so if I searched for lens/filters for the 5600, I might be able to use them too, since (now I know) the UK model/version is the 5600. If that makes sense!

Yes it does

I'm not sure if it's the American version...It might be ever so slightly different but I'm sure it's nothing you need to worry about.

I`ve had a 5600 and currently have a 6500, In my humble opinion I would get the 5600. The menu and options are much better on the 5600. Dont get me wrong though the 6500 is excellent and is a worthy upgrade but it could have been much better.

Filters are`nt that thin on the ground for it, Almost all 55mm filters will be ok for it, I did buy some macro lenses for the 5600 but never used them! As macro was a non starter on it!

I dont think my boyfriend would be very happy if I disregarded it and bought a newer model or a DSLR :P I think I'll get all I can out of this digital and get a canon or nikon when the right time comes (or the right pay raise, whichever comes first!)

The 5200/5600 is a great little camera and takes good pix.
Filter size as mentioned is 55mm, and you can get add on wide angle
and telephoto lenses, allthough the inbuilt zoom is very good.
I own both a 5600 and a 9500 and find the 5600 far easier to use
