Whilst on holidays (Scotland), I took some portraits of the kids. I don't normally take landscape shots, but couldn't resist having a go. Here's one. :)

Hi Marc.

I've seen the quality of the 'landscapers' on here, and although I love this shot, I'm not on home ground and therefore can't really be sure if it's a quality shot. Feedback from those in the know is always appreciated. :)

I'd be more than happy to have that on my wall

Brilliant image! I find the foreground a bit distracting as its to dark, I would have concentrated on the mountain and reflection.

Thanks Liam.

Good point. I did toy with cropping out shore line, but decided to keep it.

Very nice.

I'm just trying to get my bearings in terms of the location ?

I agree re. the foreground, its not very attractive.
A pano crop of the reflection would work much better imo

Scotland...... we simply fell in love with the scenery. Simply stunning!!!!! Really really didn't want to come home. :(

This shot is of Loch Eli, just west of Fort William. Just pulled over and took the shot without a tripod.

In my defence I would have taken a better shot if I hadn't been distracted with my search for 'scooshy cream' and a local Canon tog to charge my battery for me ;)

Well for someone that doesn't normally do landscapes that is brilliant, I would be ecstatic if it was me that had captured that scene, well done.

Very nice...both the original and the one minus the shoreline.

I like the foreground interest, but I think you didn't process it too sympathetically - here's my play :)

I recognised the Aonach's & Ben Nevis - I did wonder if you were out Loch Eil way.

Wait a minute there Diddy. You can't go dicking with my shots, making them better and not telling me how you did it!!! How'd you do that?

I still like the foreground (although appreciate the crop).

Thanks for the compliments. However, I have to say that the scenery in that part of world surely allows anyone to take good photos? I am in love with the place - although a bit worried about the insects in the summer!

Haha dead simple effect 30 secs max :-)

Great places are easy to get great shots from

Hmmm, sorry but I dont like the reflection being a different colour/tone from the sky.
Pano in b&w looks good though.

The pano shots without the fg and just the reflection are best for me...both the colour and the mono. Nice shot!

I think it is much easier to get a great shot from a great place but would disagree that it is easy. I think you still have to see the shot and get the right composition. Then you have to be lucky with the weather, time of day ect.

I like DDs edit I agree that the foreground interest is a keeper and think you should try your hand at some more landscape work. The highlands is a remarkble place and filled with photographic opportunity.

It's a lovely shot. I think it's crying out for some ND grads to balance the exposure and make the sky more dramatic - perhaps a grad top (to darken) and bottom (to lighten) in LR/PS could help? :)
