POTY 2011 Round 1 - New Beginnings (Entries) [Archive]

Welcome to the 2011 Talk|Photography Photographer Of The Year Competition.

This year, the themes are designed to make you think, to encourage the imagination.

The deadline for entries is the 11:59pm on the last day of the month, shortly after that a POLL will be made for you to vote for you favourite entries that month. This process will then repeat each month with a leader board being published after each round. The winner of each month will receive a prize (this will be announced each month). The member with the most votes at the end of the year will win the coveted TP POTY Trophy.

So on with the competition;

The theme for January is:
'NEW BEGINNINGS'

It's the beginning of a new year, what does this mean to you? New year resolutions made? New starts promised? Or maybe something else entirely.

* Please note that any photos submitted must not be, or have been, shown on these forums before.
* From this year, no 'placeholders' will be permitted so enter carefully. Once you have placed an entry, you will not be able to replace it.
* To disqualify an image, we simply edit the post, removing the image in question, replacing it with a Staff message.If your entry has been disqualified due to image sizes, you may re-edit your post with a resized version of the same photo. This must be done by the closing date. All disqualified images that haven't been sorted by the closing date will be left out of the vote and marked VOID in the poll.
* If anyone wishes to bring one of the images to the attention of the staff for this or whatever reason, then please use the RTM button under the post in question (It looks like this http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/images/custom_blue/buttons/report.gif).

My little sister decided she wanted a new beginning this year with a change of image. She went from long blonde hair, heavy make up and fake tan to this, which is much better. :)

Wasn't sure what to enter this month! But I think this fits - taken on 02/01/11 in Portugal. New beginings being the new year and the start of my second full year of owning a DSLR! Hopefully another fun "POTY" year too!

This photo was taken the day this month I decided to try and put some of my landscape photography out for sale. I've not had much confidence in until the last year when I did my first exhibition. I've now bought a portfolio and ordered some prints to try to sell. This photo was taken the same day and represents that decision for me.

i'm relatively new to this photography lark so my reading is mostly confined to books and magazines on the subject, trying to soak up as much info as possible. to me new beginnings means a new hobby with new challenges to face and new goals to achieve. completing this competition is one of my goals for the year, my 365 is another and i have too many more to list lol

Our daughter was our new beginning (17 months old now) my brother and his wife have a new beginning too, and our daughter has a cousin. The sun just peeks over he hills of the Brecon Beacons signalling the beginings of a new day.
Early Start for this one as its nealry a 2hr drive to the Beautiful and frozen Llangorse Lake -8 Brrrrrrr!.

was aiming for a sunset, day to night, sort of new beginning, but didnt quite work out like that, but as I'm new here, and very new to my shiny new SLR, so its' a new beginning for me trying to get to grips with a proper camera, hopefully will get better lol

José Henriquez, one of the Chilean Miners, who is now travelling all over the world, telling his story and about how religion helped 33 men to cope for 70 days underground. I think it counts as a 'new beginning' :)

I'm new to DSLR only picking mine up for the first time in May 2010. Didn't think I was nearly good enough for this caliber of competition, but then I saw others were giving it a shot and figured the challenge will be good!

My shot I've called "toward new life" and I suppose is the antithesis of new as it is a dead sunflower, who has lived it's life and shed it's seeds for a new beginning ;)
