Yet again the Dragonflies were mocking me by landing high up in the trees. Managed to gt some more shots of damsel flies though as there were loads. Also got a shot of a common blue butterfly. At first I thought it might have been an adonis blue due to the intensity of the colour, but unfortunately it wasn't.

:)

Edit; And before anyone comments.. yes the damsel fly was that colour of purple. I assume its just a variation in colour and not another species.
Edit Edit; It is infact another species; BLUE-TAILED DAMSELFLY Ischnura elegans f. violacea :)

The usual stunning shots there MK.

I agree that #1 & #3 are the picks.
Love the unusual purple clour of #1, and the way youve caught the intricacy of those needle-fine, wired, wings.

But #3 is my fave!
The butterfly is just beautiful, the background colours set if off just right too ... perfect! :thumbs:

Once again, the subjects are superb, very well caught.
I know it's probably a persoanl thing, but I prefer to see a little background. I realise it would be blurred but I feel it would add a little depth to the pics. Just my MO.

Perfect yet again ;) And I think the butterlfy is my favourite of the three :thumbs:

This blue butterfly you thought it was... would they be like a luminous blue blur that flaps around the garden? Cause we get a few of those now and again.. I too keep trying to get one, but they are no where to be seen once I get out there :lol:

Thanks. Yeah, I know what you mean. Im in two minds about it at the moment. Im really quite happy with the direction my style is heading at the moment. I had a big conversation with someone over at the deviantart regarding the background issue, and although I certainly can see what you mean, and half of me agrees with you entirely, the other half of me likes the very clean almost studio type look. I also feel it breaks down the image to the pure basics, ie environment (what its sitting on; be it a leaf, grass etc) and the subject.

I think you'll end up seeing a tiny bit more texture and pattern appear in my work eventually, once I start using a flash to help stop down that aperture. Im really on the limit of how much I can push the dof working handheld with this lens, using purely natural light. And although ive nearly got it right, I would like to have the whole subject in focus(including both antennae). Im probably going to go blue peter style' on some things found in the cupboard and make a flash snoot and diffuser for my inbuilt flash to see what results I can get, before splashing out for a proper flash setup.

Adonis blue are quite rare, so its unlikely to be one of those (If it is, your very lucky and get snapping!) Commom blue (which this is) are a lot more erm.. common and are also a brilliant blue. The earlier hatchers tend to be a deeper blue, with the latecomers sometimes being a very pale blue. Its often best shooting them in the early evening when they start to cool down as they often sit still for quite a while.

On a completely different note.. I won a macro competition on Deviantart. :D It was only a relatively small club one with about 30 entries, but im chuffed about coming first. The shot I entered was;
