And im afraid im going to go against the grain on this one Les, and say these are nowhere near your usual standard. I realise these are more snaps than your usual very well considered and excecuted shots, but they still do little for me.

No1. Although an ok shot, I find the lighting is doing you no favours. I also find the distortion at the edges a little distracting.(Or it certainly seems like distortion anyway). Nice blue sky though.

No2. The composition and everything is fine, except for the fact thet the tree seems to be framing... well not a lot. I find my eye is being drawn into the distance and starts hunting for a focal point.

No3. Nice light, but the rest of the shot doesn't work for me im afraid. Maybe if it had a bit more immediate forgreound it would havbe worked better.

No4. Lol, that is one manic dog you have. Its a great moment you have captured, but it looks a bit soft to me.

No5. Yup, its a cow alright.

No6. Nice light, and the colours and motion blur works well, but I would have liked to see the water in a bit of context. I think I wider view of the scene would have worked better (unless the surroundings were rubbish).

No7. My favourite of the lot. Shame your dog is a bit soft, but the shot seems to sum up the end of a good day.

Sorry if some of that seems a bit harsh, but then im used to your impeccably high standards.:)

When I started to look at the first two, I said to myself that I hate looking at your work. It makes me realise how bad I am. But then the 4th shot and onwards I have to agree with messiah khan and I saw the light at he end of the tunnel, knowing that we don't take earth shatteringly good shots all the time.

Hey, no problems with honest critique, and no the comments are not too harsh :)

What I set out to achieve on the afternoon is to rather than focus on one particular type of image is to put together a photo-montage reflecting my afternoon's jaunt.
Rather than just shoot variations on a particular theme, I'd try and make them all different (apart from the two trees). Using just two lenses.

If I was presenting the images individually, the shot of the cow and Jack & Jess wouldn't make it. Jack is just too soft, I had to crop quite severely to get this, as I normally use my 100-400 for these type of shots, the 70-200 just hasn't got the reach.

The last one with Jess is a bit of fun, she often winds the rear window down while we are driving along, watching the world go by, I just popped my camera out of the window, with manual focus to around 2 feet and snapped away.

In number three, I used the rather faint path (bottom right) as the lead in and the diagonal tree line top left as the lead out, but acknowledge it's possibly not strong enough to hold the composition together, and that's one of the strengths of good critique, testing your own vision, realising what you see, not everyone else shares that same perception.

Cheers

I like shots 1 and 2 as they have lone trees in them. I like lone trees a lot, not sure why.
The picture of your dog is cool, great capture, just a little too soft to be considered a great shot.
As Mr Kahn said, not upto your impeccably high standards.
I hope you enjoyed your afternoon out though :)

Thought I had posted in here, but seems not :o

Really love the first two tree shots as stand alone photos :) and I think the rest document the Yorkshire Dales well. I really want to get out into the dales now I have some decent kit, but the weather seems to be against me :(

On a side note, the best chips in the world (in my opinion) can be found in Grassington in a little cafe called The Retreat (http://www.theretreatcafe.co.uk/). I found it because its a Vege/Vegan place but the food is damn good :D and something to look forward too after a long walk.
