Play in my lense? [Archive] - Talk Photography

After attempting a bit of manual focus practice over the last couple of days I've noticed that there is a fair amount of play in the front part of my kit 350D lense (EFS-18-55 II).

There's about 1mm of in/out play and about 0.5mm of left/right play.

Is this normal? Should I expect this because it's a cheapo lense?

My guess would be yes...at least mine has play in it and more than yours!

Don't worry - it's normal. My Canon 28-135 wobbles around a lot when extended but as long as it isn't moving when you take a shot it won't matter.
