Hey All

I just knew this darned photography bug would hit me hard as soon as I got into it...:)

So... being very happy with my new e400 (1st DSLR), I have purchased a few lenses for it this last weekend, and now want to investigate a little about flashes and flash units. I know nothing about them, what the best types are for certain images etc... so all advice greatly appreciated.

I will be doing all sorts of pics really, specialising in nothing in particular, but so far I do enjoy taking portraits and doing close up macro work. I noticed earlier today that some of the plants I tested my +1,+2,+4 filters on were not able to be fully covered by the built-in flash, so I need an alternative unit. I don't want a ring flash - that's too specialist for me, but want one that I can mount either on the top of the camera, or hand-hold / mount to a separate position for any type of general image work.

Funds are limited to say £150... ish... so, am I barking mad or are there flash units out there I could be looking at?

Thanks all.

No idea what to advise, but for that money, you should have no problem getting something good - I recently bought a pretty good S/H flash for just over £100 - a Sigma super dg 500 with a really silly long-winded name, so for £150 in a cheap-to-buy place like Dubai you should have plenty of choice !
Good luck!

Oly FL36 fits the bill, and the budget.

Can probably get it a bit cheaper on ebay if you want to go that route?

Many thanks for the link to this Chilli.

Do you know if I can use this 'off camera' i.e. as a handheld or tripod mounted flash unit as well as mounting it on the top of the camera?
