Ok, I'm looking to try and find a reliable, well made, universal power adapter as I seem to have bought half a dozen dodgy ones in my quest. It needs to be a universal to UK format, i.e. it will take US, Asian & European plugs and will then fit into one of our UK 3 pin sockets. It's easy to get adapters to take on holiday which go the 'opposite way' but it seems much harder to find a decent one that does what I need. I have found adapters which do this in B&Q but to say that they have dodgy connections would be a huge understatement. The one I use to charge my Nikon batteries makes all sorts of scary electrical clicking noises which doesn't inspire confidence and probably isn't doing too much good to the battery itself.

If any of you togs out there know of a good quality adapter then please post a link or a product name here so I can stop holding the damn power cable while re-charging! Not too fussed about price, just minimizing the potential fire risk would be well worth it!

Do you have many things with foreign plugs on?

I'd have thought the easiest fix would be to cut the plug off and wire on a standard UK plug. Most chargers and such (I don't know Nikon kit) like have cables with a figure 8 or kettle plug one end and mains the other end - just use a different cable with the same figure 8 plug but a UK mains plug.

I've bought an adaptor from ebay in the past to use on a US charger with mains pins (no lead). Might be worth a search if you must have an adaptor.
