Hi everyone

I took this in Fishguard last year when we spent Christmas there in the motorhome. The weather was foul most of the time.I sometimes think the foul weather just follows me everywhere when I take the van out.

anyway,we went to Fishuard Harbour to watch the last ferry leave for Chrimbo to Ireland and then a while later I noticed an old chap sat on the bench beside a large lamp with his dog staring out to sea.I felt like asking him if he would mind me taking a photo but felt that I would be intruding and after the man had gone,I took my cam out and took this photo. The title cam from watching the man leave the bench and I thought it seemed apt. This is one of only three or four of my photos that I am really chuffed with.Just in case you guys wonder why I clipped the bottom of the lamp off, this was taken in the carpark and I had a wee job to crop the shot and leave the cars parked there out of it and still get the whole lamp in.This image was done using channels to do the mono conversion.

thank you for looking.

49 views and no comments...come on!

Kenny,

Glad you gave us a bit of a description about the picture. Would have been nice with the old man in it but I would probably have done the same as you. I also like using the channels method for conversion.

Nice picture.

Best wishes,

Bob

Lovely shot, although perhaps slightly to central, and also the crop just above the light is also a bit iffy. But thats being very critical, this is a lovely shot, well done :)

Hi Guys

thanks for the mass of comments LOL! In regard to the crop and the positioning of the lamp, this was done "in camera" and had to be that way because there were lots of cars that would have shown up on the shot otherwise and would have ruined the feel of the shot I was trying to portray.I do respect your opinions and take them on board as though them thats how I learn my craft so thank you very much.

best regards

The wife and I went to Fishguard as part of our stay in south west Wales back in 2005. Very nice harbour area - and we had wall to wall sunshine for the week - great wether. Nice place for photos too.

I have plenty of shots of the ferries coming in and out and also there was a brass band playing on the quayside/harbour side and that added a nice musical touch to our walk along the sea wall.

As for the photo, you know the issues with the crop on the bottom and top, apart from that I like it.
